Most people already know that Toads are poisonous but do you know where they actually store their potent toxins? It is not simply in their skin like a poison frog but is actually contained near the base of their heads in what is called the parotoid glands.
What is even more fascinating, is that it is said that these glands are actually capable of spraying this toxin when they are squeezed or bitten by a predator. To demonstrate this effect Coyote Peterson will gently manipulate the glands of an invasive Cane Toad to not only show you what the poison looks like but also to see if it really does spray!

One of the world's largest toads!!! This is Cookie the monster toad weighing in at an enormous 4 pounds!
This is one of the American toads we have in our backyard, and this one weighs in at about one ounce and is around 2.5 inches in length, and he likes to eat insects and other things he can find in the backyard.
Over here we have one of our largest pet toads. This is Cookie the monster toad. She is 4 pounds and about 10 inches in length and she likes to eat toads like this one as well as crickets. So let's see if we can compare them here. See if we can put her down and put this guy close to her. Cookie, actually, is a poisonous cane toad with the poison glands on the back of the neck.

A toad is any of a number of species of amphibians in the order Anura (frogs) that are characterized by dry, leathery skin, short legs, and parotoid glands.

Arundo donax
Arundo donax, Giant Cane, is a tall perennial cane growing in damp soils, either fresh or moderately saline. Other common names include Carrizo, Arundo, Spanish cane, Colorado River Reed, Wild cane, and Giant reed.
Arundo donax is native to the Mediterranean Basin and middle east Asia, and probably also parts of Africa and southern Arabian Peninsula. It has been widely planted and naturalised in the mild temperate, subtropical and tropical regions of both hemispheres (Herrera & Dudley 2003), especially in the Mediterranean, California, the western Pacific and the Caribbean. It forms dense stands on disturbed sites, sand dunes, in wetlands and riparian habitats.
Description
Arundo donax generally grows to 6 metres (20 ft), in ideal conditions it can exceed 10 metres (33 ft), with hollow stems 2 to 3 centimetres (0.79 to 1.18 in) diameter. The leaves are alternate, 30 to 60 centimetres (12 to 24 in) long and 2 to 6 centimetres (0.79 to 2.36 in) wide with a tapered tip, grey-green, and have a hairy tuft at the base. Overall, it resembles an outsize common reed (Phragmites australis) or a bamboo (subfamily Bambusoideae).

Plot: While he's deep undercover in New York, DEA agent Shane Tanner, the son of a legendary cooler named Dalton, learns that his uncle Nate Tanner got beat up by a group of men because he doesn't want to sell the Black Pelican, his bar in Tyree, Louisiana. Shane takes off for Louisiana to find out who attacked Nate. Wild Bill wants to buy the Black Pelican since it's located in a prime location for running drugs. The Black Pelican is close to the border, it's between Florida and Texas, and it's in an area where drugs can be smuggled pretty much undetected. But Shane doesn't want to sell, and damages the numerous thugs that Bill sends his way. Also, Dalton was murdered years ago, and Shane still wonders who killed Dalton. When Shane was a rookie state trooper in Tyree, Shane had come home from work one night, and found Dalton fatally shot. After that, Shane left town and became a DEA agent. Now, Wild Bill's boss, Miami crime syndicate kingpin Victor Crost, decides that it's time to handle matters personally, because Wild Bill's men are not doing a good job of it. Shane is soon faced with impossible odds and a low number of staff members at the Black Pelican. This is one of the American toads we have in our backyard, and this one weighs in at about one ounce and is around 2.5 inches in length, and he likes to eat insects and other things he can find in the backyard. Over here we have one of our largest pet toads. This is Cookie the monster toad. She is 4 pounds and about 10 inches in length and she likes to eat toads like this one as well as crickets. This is one of the American toads we have in our backyard, and this one weighs in at about one ounce and is around 2.5 inches in length, and he likes to eat insects and other things he can find in the backyard.
Over here we have one of our largest pet toads. This is Cookie the monster toad. She is 4 pounds and about 10 inches in length and she likes to eat toads like this one as well as crickets. So let's see if we can compare them here. See if we can put her down and put this guy close to her. Cookie, actually, is a poisonous cane toad with the poison glands on the back of the neck.
