Masagus is an honorific title held by people in Palembang, Indonesia, usually held by the descendants of the family of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II. The woman variant of this title is Masayu. This title is both honorary and hereditary from the father's line of descendants. Therefore, if an ordinary man marries a Masayu maiden, his children will not bear this title. Though one may be identified as among the respected members of the society, the bearer of this title does not gain any specific privileges in the society itself.
