2017 Holden Barina prices revealed

Holden has shown off its refreshed Barina city car, with a focus on attracting a broader range of buyers.

The updated Barina will sit between the Spark light car and Astra small car in the brand's range.

The entry-level Barina LS five-speed manual model is highlighted by its sharp pricing, starting at just $14,990 before on-road costs, with the six-speed automatic version costing an extra $2200, bring it up to $17,190.

The range-topping LT variant is only available as an automatic and is priced from $20,390.

All variants are powered by the same 1.6-litre petrol engine as its predecessor which produces 85kW and 155Nm.

Exterior design tweaks include a reworked front and rear fascia, a new grille and LED daytime running lights to help bring the city car in to line with the rest of the range.

"It was time for the Barina to grow up at bit and expand its global appeal beyond the young adult market," said Justin Thompson, GM Australia's Exterior Design Manager.

 "We were challenged to explore what Barina could be; to create a more athletic exterior whilst providing an interior that people can enjoy their time in," said Mr Thompson. 

Holden has focused on improving the city car's infotainment - much like it has with the smaller Spark to help attract younger buys - by including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring within the seven-inch touchscreen that also features a rear-view camera which is supported by rear parking sensors.

The range-topping LT version also has keyless ignition, heated front seats and a leather steering wheel, plus 17-inch alloy wheels over the LS's 16-inch alloys.

The new Holden Barina is now available in showrooms locally.
