Welcome to Jocknroll, a site celebrating all that is good (and occasionally bad) about Scottish Rock and Pop Music, as well as my own musings on all manner of subjects, courtesy of the Blog page.
I tend not to wax lyrical on new releases or hip happening new bands and singers. I simply don’t have the time. But I do publicise bands I am particularly fond of. These tend to be Scottish. I receive a lot of emails from PR companies telling me about this band from Denmark or that hip hop combo from Los Angeles. Sorry, but you’re wasting your time. They may well be the next big thing and very good at what they do but it’s not what I’m interested in. Besides, there are many more better sites for getting your stuff reviewed. (I should point out that the vast majority of PR companies sending me emails haven’t even looked at the site. The smallest amount of research will let you know if I am really the best person to plug your latest offering).
Feel free to browse Jocknroll via the links on the right, or above the header picture, which features The Jacobeats. There is still the A to Z of Scottish bands and singers, with links to their websites, Bandcamp page, MySpace site, or other web presence where applicable. Feel free to let us know of someone we may have missed or any amendments that are required. They are links to Scottish venues, festivals, websites and blogs, record labels, record shops and the results of our music polls from a few years ago (we really should do another one). There’s also some Scottish Pop Trivia, which will be updated and expanded extensively, a list of Scottish radio stations and the Jocknroll Blog for regular random musings on all manner of subjects.
This site was borne out of a love of all things musical, trivial and Scottish. There have been so many great bands/artists who have come out of Scotland, with a good many going on to grace the world stage. There’s also been some dross too but we love them all.
If your band isn’t mentioned and/or linked then by all means let us know. That’s what we’re here for. We might even have another poll or two but family responsibilities, domestic commitments and radio shows and a stack of telly still to watch are putting paid to that…for the moment.
So, come in, have a look around and tell us where we’re going wrong (or right) as we move to Jocknroll 5.0. I’ll get the kettle on.
Deep-fried shortbread, anyone?
Buy Scottish Records
If you want to buy any of the albums featured on the site then go to a record shop and buy them there. That’s what they’re there for. If you don’t use them, you’ll lose them.
The Artists Pages – Tell Us About You
The Artists pages now have links to websites, Bandcamp pages, MySpace pages, Wikipedia and other information sources for as many bands as we can find sites for. People still get in touch to let us know of Scottish bands they were in, who went on to release that cherished piece of 7″ vinyl* (*other formats are available). We’re more than happy to add any artist we have missed to our Artist pages. So feel free to let us know about your band (and their website/Bandcamp/Facebook/MySpace etc) and we’ll gladly pull up a chair and listen to your sobs of “we could’ve been the next Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes” before adding your name to the Artists pages. Shoulder to cry on is optional. We want to publicise every Scottish artist, irrespective of what type music you play. Inuit throat music? Sure. One-man band? Why not?
Jocknroll in the News?
If you see the Jocknroll site featured in any newspaper or magazine we’d really appreciate it if (a) you could tell us as soon as possible where you saw it and (b) if possible, send us a copy. E-mail us here and we’ll give you an address to send it to.
If any media organisations wish to speak to us you can e-mail us and we’ll get in touch with you as soon as humanly possible.
We’re still after a copy of the magazine PRODUCT, which featured us. If anyone has a spare copy or knows where we can get one we will very grateful and will name our first-born after you. Oops, better make that second born!
Radio 2’s Website of the Day
Many thanks to Miles Medonza who made Jocknroll the Website of the day (for the second time) on his regular feature on Steve Wright’s Radio 2 Afternoon Show back in 2006 and 2007. Apparently, if we were selected again for the Website of the Day we got to keep Miles.
FRIENDS OF JOCKNROLL

A special mention to Dave, who did all the stats for the polls. That man loves a stat. And a list. Oh, and coffee too. And last but not least, all of you out there.
