The ACT government has struck a deal with Uber which will see Night Rider bus users get $10 trip discounts for their 'last leg home' from the city this festival season.
The rebranded and relaunched Night Rider bus will start picking up passengers this Friday, December 2 and operate from 11pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays until the New Year.
Transport and City Services minister Meegan Fitzharris said the Australia-first partnership with the ride share service would make getting in and out of the city more cost effective.
"Patrons will benefit from Uber promotional codes to get $10 off their ride home between 11pm and 2.30am," she said.
The new service will run along Red and Blue Rapid routes between the city and major town centres including Belconnen, Gungahlin, Woden and Tuggeranong.
Northside services will depart Platform 5 and southside services will depart Platform 7.
The Night Rider will run every 20 minutes from 11pm on December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and every 10 minutes on New Year's Eve, December 31.
Regular cash fares, adults $4.70 and concessions $2.30, apply but for a cheaper fare customers can tap on and off with their MyWay.
Spilt Milk Festival revelers are able to take the Night Rider for free as part of their ticket and only those that do tap on with MyWay will qualify for $10 Uber discount code.
Uber NSW and ACT general manager Henry Greenacre he was "super excited" about the partnership.
But warned the promotion codes would only apply to trips taken on the night of riding between 11pm and 2.30am from the selected bus stops.
He wouldn't be drawn to comment on surge charges in peak periods.
However, he said local drivers would be told about the "ground-breaking partnership so they can make the most of the extra demand for trips."
"We know it's difficult to seamlessly connect travellers from the public transport network to their doorstep and we're pleased to be working with the ACT government to help crack this last mile challenge," Mr Greenacre said.
