Chiang Mai (/ˈtʃjɑːŋˈmaɪ/, from Thai: เชียงใหม่ [tɕʰiəŋ màj], Lanna:ᨩ᩠ᨿᨦᩉ᩠ᨾᩲ᩵ [t͡ɕīaŋ.màj]) sometimes written as "Chiengmai" or "Chiangmai", is the largest and most culturally significant city in Northern Thailand. It is the capital of Chiang Mai Province and was a former capital of the Kingdom of Lan Na (1296–1768), which became a tributary state of the Kingdom of Chiang Mai from 1774 to 1939. It is 700 km (435 mi) north of Bangkok and is situated amongst the highest mountains in the country. The city sits astride the Ping River, a major tributary of the Chao Phraya River.
Chiang Mai means "new city" and was so named because it became the new capital of the Lan Na kingdom when it was founded in 1296, succeeding Chiang Rai, the former capital founded in 1262.
Chiang Mai gained prominence in the political sphere in May 2006, when the Chiang Mai Initiative was concluded between the ASEAN nations and the "+3" countries (China, Japan, and South Korea). Chiang Mai was one of three Thai cities contending for Thailand's bid to host the World Expo 2020 (the others were Chonburi and Ayutthaya). Ayutthaya, however, was the city ultimately chosen by the Thai Parliament to register for the international competition.
Mai (เทศบาลตำบลใหม่) is a township in Non Sung district, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand effective July 18, 2008. The TAO was created in 1996. It covers 66.46 km2 (25.66 sq mi) in 16 villages with 12,772 citizens.

Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share. The organization has released several copyright-licenses known as Creative Commons licenses free of charge to the public. These licenses allow creators to communicate which rights they reserve, and which rights they waive for the benefit of recipients or other creators. An easy-to-understand one-page explanation of rights, with associated visual symbols, explains the specifics of each Creative Commons license. Creative Commons licenses do not replace copyright, but are based upon it. They replace individual negotiations for specific rights between copyright owner (licensor) and licensee, which are necessary under an "all rights reserved" copyright management, with a "some rights reserved" management employing standardized licenses for re-use cases where no commercial compensation is sought by the copyright owner. The result is an agile, low-overhead and low-cost copyright-management regime, profiting both copyright owners and licensees. Wikipedia uses one of these licenses.
Doi Suthep (ดอยสุเทพ), is a mountain ("doi") west of Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is 1,676 metres (5,499 ft) in elevation and is one of the twin peaks of a granite mountain. The other peak is known as Doi Pui and is slightly higher (1,685 m).
Doi Suthep is 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Chiang Mai city centre. The vegetation below 1,000 m is mostly deciduous forest, with evergreen forest above this elevation.
The Doi Suthep - Doi Pui hill is part of the Thanon Thong Chai Range, the southernmost subrange of the Shan Highland system. Other high peaks of the same range are Doi Luang Chiang Dao (2,175 m), Doi Pui (1,685 m), and Doi Inthanon, the highest point in Thailand, at 2,565 m.
The temple Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep is on top of a hill (around 1,060 m) forming Doi Suthep. This Buddhist place of worship dates back to the 13th century. It is an important venue for the devout and a legend featuring a white elephant is connected to this revered site. There are views of Chiang Mai city and its surroundings from the top of this mountain.

Here are some of the best things to do and see in Chiang Mai in Thailand. Commonly referred to as Thailand’s second city, Chiang Mai is a vibrant, colourful hotspot to visit for some of Thailand’s finest street markets, Thai street food, temples and scenery and is a quieter, smaller yet fascinating variation from Bangkok with its own charms. As a tourist to Thailand, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this city and if you are a backpacker, you can find cheap dorms ($3) and hostels rooms starting around 6$ in this city way cheaper than in the more tourist rich areas of the country further south such as Koh Samui. Indeed, it forms an integral part of the backpacker’s trail, especially if you are trying to do things on a budget yet want to get that authentic cultural and insightful stay. Backpa...

HERE I BREAK DOWN EVERYTHING FROM BOOKING YOUR TICKET WITHOUT BEING SCAMMED TO ACTUALLY BOARDING THE TRAIN AND KEEPING YOUR LUGGAGE SECURE! By far one of the most popular ways to travel between Bangkok and Northern Thailand is by train! After 3 hectic and exciting days exploring Bangkok, we decided to jump on the overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai. After heeding some well sourced advice, we booked our tickets a couple of days in advance at Hua Lamphong train station. Even though we were travelling in low season we are glad we didn’t leave it too late as the train was pretty full when we boarded. Don’t forget to take your passport along with you as it will be required, along with the sum of 780 baht (low season price for upper bunk in second class). We had a couple of options. Of cours...

Goin' home, he's goin' home
He'll be leavin', leavin' here today
Well if he don't leave now
Won't be goin' nowhere
Well home is where the heart is
Then my home's in New Orleans
Take me to that land of dreams
Lord, and if I don't leave now
I won't be goin' nowhere, nowhere
Goin' home
He's goin' home (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yeah he leaving, leaving here today
Well if he don't go now
I won't be goin' nowhere
(Instrumental- piano)
"Welcome to Dr. John"
(Instrumental- horn)
"Go to Chris Barber on Trombone, Chris Barber"
What you say
And what you do
Well it's times like that, then I'm tellin' you
Well if you don't leave now
I won't be goin' nowhere (nowhere, nowhere, said nowhere) Lord
And if I don't leave now, I won't be goin' nowhere
Yeah but don't leave now
