Important Changes for Hype Machine on Sonos

On June 13, 2016, Hype Machine on Sonos will only be available to SoundCloud Go premium subscribers in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Australia and New Zealand.

To keep using Hype Machine on your Sonos device, there are three steps:

  1. Sign up for SoundCloud Go.
  2. Connect your Hype Machine account to your SoundCloud account. After you link the accounts, your Go status will be visible on this page.
  3. Make sure to use this Hype Machine account in your Sonos controller.

Much of the music shared by bloggers that you’ve been able to discover on Hype Machine is hosted on SoundCloud. We’ve been SoundCloud supporters from the very beginning (2008? it has been quite a while), and as their service changes, we are excited to continue to play a role in its growth. Each new Go subscriber enables SoundCloud to better support artists who share music on their service.

Get in touch if you have questions.

Hype Machine at The Great Escape 2016

The Great Escape

Hype Machine returns to Brighton, England this month to present a showcase at The Great Escape Festival on Saturday May 21.

With over 400 artists performing, The Great Escape is considered Europe’s leading festival for new music—a bit like the UK’s version of SXSW.

London trio Kero Kero Bonito headline the bill. They’re joined by blogger favorite Anna of the North, Jersey club matriarch UNiiQU3, hotly-tipped Danish duo Smerz and, making her live UK debut, Bibi Bourelly (the Def Jam-signed maverick behind Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money”).

Hype Machine at The Great Escape showcase happens at The Arch (189 King’s Rd, on the Brighton seafront), starting at 6pm on Saturday May 21.

This was Hype Machine’s fifth year of bringing blogger-curated showcases to the SXSW music festival, and from what we’re hearing, it might have been our best.

Mazda + Hype Machine’s Hype Hotel 2016 was the place for many exciting debuts: AlunaGeorge premiered two new tracks, “Automatic” and the Flume-produced “I Remember”:

SBTRKT debuted new material during his heroic 95-min (!) set on Friday. SXSW sets are usually capped at 45 minutes, so the lucky crowd got to dance twice as long with the masked DJ that night:

Thursday night’s Gorilla vs Bear showcase marked the hotly awaited collaboration of two Hype Hotel alums—Charli XCX (HH ’13) and SOPHIE (HH ’14 & 15) performed together for the first time ever, playing tracks from their new EP. Charli had some kind words for us afterwards:

Hype Hotel hosted over 60 artists throughout our five days this year, with even more stopping by to record a set with La Blogotheque in the glass-paneled Mazda Studio outside—people on the lawn started calling these sessions “band in a box”, and they began to draw quite the audience:

Elsewhere in the yard, the Hotel crowd (and it was a crowd! NIGHTOUT processed so many RSVPs this year) started their day at Tito’s Bloody Mary Bar, hung out on the beach (yes, we trucked in sand) sponsored by Flip Flop Wines, stopped in for a cocktail at the Don Julio Airstream Speakeasy, grabbed food at the East Side King food truck between sets, and picked up a Bud Light at the bar. They also got in a few photos with the performers passing through:

A couple of artists saluted David Bowie this year, with Car Seat Headrest beginning their set at the Stadiums & Shrines x yvynyl, showcase with “Station to Station,” and Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals dipping into “Let’s Dance” Friday night:

In 2016, Hype Hotel’s curators continued to spotlight the diverse new sounds being made around the world, from UK house:
