Andy Panda is a funny animal cartoon character who starred in his own series of animated cartoon short subjects produced by Walter Lantz. These "cartunes" were released by Universal Pictures from 1939 to 1947, and United Artists from 1948 to 1949. The titular character is an anthropomorphic cartoon character, a cute panda. Andy became the second star of the Walter Lantz cartoons after Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. He achieved considerable popularity until being eventually supplanted by Woody Woodpecker.
When Oswald the Lucky Rabbit retired in 1938, following a nine-year run, Walter Lantz's studio went for months without recurring characters. It wasn't until late 1939, when Lantz had a trip to a zoo. There, the main attraction of the place was a young panda which Lantz drew pictures of. He would then use his drawings to construct a new character.
Andy's first cartoon was the aptly titled Life Begins for Andy Panda in 1939. (This was obvious wordplay on the perky titles of the popular Andy Hardy movies of that era. Ironically, a later Andy Hardy film was actually titled Life Begins for Andy Hardy.)

Plot: For her birthday, Andy presents his sweetheart, Miranda, with her usual present, candy and flowers. Miranda complains she wants something decent for her birthday like a fur coat...which Andy can't afford. A con man tells him he doesn't need money. He sells him a tracking hound and tells him he can hunt for the fox himself. Unfortunately, the fox Andy and his hound find has no intentions of being caught. Eventually, Andy does capture an animal to make a fur stole with. It's not the fox but, rather, something that's more of a surprise.

Fortunately, there is a banquet going on down the street at Mrs. Van Glutton's mansion. The two arrive at the mansion and instantly try the patience of butler Wally Walrus who doesn't appreciate the food filching ways of the two. Eventually, an enormous food fight erupts with Wally caught in the middle, ending with Wally chasing the two away with a shotgun.

Being kind of a cheapskate, he hides his dog in the closet from Wally's presence but, upon entering Andy's house, Wally still suspects something is amiss. He uses a trained flea to reveal the dog who gets chased by Wally into a pond in the backyard. After "fishing" the dog out, Wally demands Andy pay his $3.00 but both are in for a surprise: the dog has an entire litter of puppies each worth an additional $3.00!

Feeling bad, Andy does his best to care for the young hatchling until the bird goes after a frog culminating in his needing to be rescued from a hungry shark. Finally, the two decide the only way they can rid themselves of the pest is for the two to just plain move out. They pack their bags and move to a new house leaving the mouse behind. With no one to torment, the mouse decides life isn't worth living anymore and attempts to end it all until he finally discovers their new address, moves in with them, and resumes tormenting the two.

When Andy realizes he's no match for the crow, he lets his dog, Milo, keep watch for him. Milo, however, is no genius himself and the crow soon convinces him that he should be chasing a goat and a bull. Finally, Milo comes to his senses and goes after the crow as does Andy but the two end up inadvertantly clubbing each other senseless while the crow makes off with the remainder of Andy's cornfield.

Plot: Andy buys a goldfish from a pet store. As he's carrying it home, balanced on his head, a garbage-picking cat sees it and becomes obsessed. First, he tries a simple grab from the other side of a fence, but the fish first fights its way out of the cat's mouth, then bites the cat (twice, the second time with vicious looking dentures). The cat next pretends to be a desert explorer, dying of thirst. When Andy gives him some of the water from the bowl, but not the fish, the cat takes a more direct approach, ditching the disguise and strong-arming Andy. This sends Andy into a cement mixer, but the cat quickly falls, spilling the fish (along with an attached puddle) down the street and into a sewer. As the fish comes out the other end, the cat is waiting with a frying pan and barbecue. The fish slowly realizes it's hot, and leaps high into the air. By now, Andy is ready, and catches the fish in his bowl. They head back to the pet store, where Andy comes out with a very mean-looking dog, which sends the cat away, crashing into things.

Plot: Andy Panda is the painter and his dog, Butch, is the pointer, and Andy is trying to paint a portrait of Butch doing what a bird-dog is supposed to do...standing still and pointing to the game-bird. But Butch won't stand still. Andy's solution is to rig a gun to go off if Butch moves a muscle. Butch gamely resists all temptations to move but a couple of spiders carry him off in their web, with the gun going off repeatedly and peppering Butch's posterior.
