AFL finals punting preview

Where’s the money going for week one of the finals?

HE’S an unbackable favourite — but punters keep backing him.

Almost half the money bet on this year’s Brownlow Medal with TAB has been for a Patrick Dangerfield win, and the money keeps coming.

TAB is holding $540,000 on the Brownlow, and $228,000 of that is on Dangerfield.

Meanwhile, the Dogs are friendless in betting as they try to pull off an upset elimination final win in Perth and punters have all but written off the three-time reigning premier.

Where’s the money going this week?

WHO’S HOT

Patrick Dangerfield for Brownlow Medal ($1.25)

The shortest-priced favourite in Brownlow Medal history has continued to firm since the end of the season.

“Forty-three per cent of the money on the Brownlow has been for a Dangerfield victory, and it wouldn’t surprise if he shortens even further by the time of the count, with a few big bets coming for him in the past couple of weeks,” TAB’s Nick Quinn said.

Sydney ($1.45)

Sydney has remained strong in betting for the qualifying final with 78 per cent of the money for the Swans.

“Sydney has been steady at $1.45 since the market opening with punters thinking their finals experience will be too much for the Giants,” Quinn said.

WHO’S NOT

Western Bulldogs ($4.50)

The Bulldogs have been friendless in the market against the in-form Eagles with just 12 per cent of the market.

“The Bulldogs have been on the drift ever since the market opened when they were $3.55 and are now $4.50,” Quinn said.

Hawthorn ($2.35)

Punters are writing off the reigning champions with only 31 per cent of the money on the Hawks to prevail over Geelong.

“The Hawks have eased from $2.15 to $2.35 since the market opened while 97 per cent of money on the line has been for the Cats at -6.5,” Quinn said.

WHAT THE?

One TAB customer stands to win $27,555 if Eddie Betts salutes on Brownlow night, having placed $55 at $501 on him.

NICK QUINN’S BEST BET

Almost impossible to see Adelaide and West Coast not winning, throw in the Brisbane Broncos and you have a $1.81 winner.

NICK QUINN’S KNOCK

The last time Sydney played GWS the Swans lost by 42 points and are way under the odds at $1.45. Have something on the young Giants especially at the line where they are given a 15.5 point start.
