Truth Behind Unfortunate Love Story of Sanjeev Kumar | Interesting Bollywood Facts - Gaurav's Diary
Well, certainly Bollywood is no less than a fairy-tale for some of our celebs who found their soul mates after entering the tinsel town. However, not all love-stories are rosy. One such story is of the most amazing actor of all-time, Sanjeev Kumar. He was not only the most sought after actors of his time but was also a hot favourite among women. But, our Haribhai (his real name) lost his heart to the dream-girl of Bollywood, Hema Malini.
It is believed that his love for Hema was so deep that he was never able to love anyone else. He was passionately in love and even proposed to her. But, a major setback in his life came when Hema Malini refused his proposal and got married to Dharmendra. He was completely shattered. Well, many even say that this rejection was the reason for Sanjeev Kumar to remain a bachelor for his entire life.

Widower Amar is well-off financially, and lives in a house with his daughter, and servant Dayal. Together they set out to check out two sisters, Shobha, and Sheela. Amar goes as Dayal, and Dayal goes as Amar, as Amar is not sure if a step-mother will be able to bestow care and love as a real mother. They arrive at the household of Durga, Shanti Swarup, Renu, Sheela, and their servant Geeta. They begin to settle down, Dayal in a spacious room, and Amar in the servant's quarters, which consists of an untidy room with no electricity. It is not long before Amar finds out that he is attracted to Geeta, and not to the two sisters, but in his present state, he cannot reveal himself, and openly propose marriage. In the meantime, Durga starts getting suspicious about Amar, and starts wondering if Amar is actually a servant or a crook!

The movie story deals with Raja, one day while travelling on the BEST bus in Bombay, He produces a 100 rupee note to buy a 50 paisa bus ticket, and is made fun of by the bus conductor, and asked to leave the bus. Asha, who is travelling on the same bus, pays for his fare, and he tells her that he will re-pay this loan after he gets some change. He does not get the change, and instead loses the 100 rupee note, but makes his way into Asha's heart. Both fall in love, and get married. They live in harmony for several years, and become proud parents of two children. With their growing family, Raja's income is just not enough to make ends, and Asha decides to get a job. Raja decides to stay at home and look after the household chores, and the kids. What happens is that there is chaos at work for Asha, and at home for Raja, with alround hilarious results.

Sanjeev Kumar (born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala;Gujarati: હરિભાઈ જરીવાલા) 9 July 1938 – 6 November 1985) was a noted Indian film actor. He won several major awards including two National Film Awards for Best Actor for his performances in the movies Dastak (1971) and Koshish (1973). He acted in genres ranging from romantic drama to thrillers. Unlike his peers, Sanjeev Kumar did not mind playing roles that were non-glamorous, such as characters way beyond his age. Movies like Sholay and Trishul exemplify his talents. He is well remembered for his versatility and genuine portrayal of his characters.
Early life and background
Sanjeev Kumar, born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala in Bombay, Maharashtra, (also referred as Haribhai) to a Gujarati family spent his early years in Surat. His family eventually settled in Mumbai. A stint in a film school led him to Bollywood, where he eventually became an accomplished actor. Sanjeev Kumar had two younger brothers and one sister.
