Alan Jones' posse hits back at Neil Finn's Crowded House concert dig

Even from his sick bed, Alan Jones' lieutenants are defending the broadcaster's integrity.

The radio host and Circular Quay resident, currently recuperating from major back surgery, was the subject of a sly dig from Crowded House frontman Neil Finn at the band's first reunion concert on the steps of the Opera House overnight, thanks to his vocal opposition to the gig being staged outside his gilded balcony.

Crowded House return to the Opera House

Thousands of fans packed the Sydney Opera House forecourt to see the band recreate their iconic farewell concert twenty years ago. Vision: Today Show, Channel Nine.

"Let's wake up Alan Jones... For the public good, for the sake of keeping Sydney open," Finn implored concertgoers.

Now, in an email obtained by Fairfax, Jones' posse has hit back at the band.

"Just wanted to let you know Alan has consistently been a strident critic of the lockout laws," the email says, attaching a couple of Jones' "most recent editorials" to back the claim.

They seem to have missed Finn's point, though.

Jones, along with a grumbly gang of local residents calling themselves the Sydney Opera House Concerned Citizens Group, have been lobbying Opera House management and Premier Mike Baird's office to shut down the venue's proposed outdoor concerts for weeks, citing noise and sleep disruption - the actual target of Finn's missive.

In the email, Jones' backer signs off with a haughty kicker.

"And by the way, you wouldn't have woken him up. He's in St Vincent's Hospital after having a 10-hour back operation on Monday," he writes.

That's about 4 kilometres away as the crow flies - seems tonight's gig needs to be a bit louder then.

Finn, for one, seems up for it.

The frontman, who's found himself in a Twitter spat with Jones apologists all morning, told one Toaster-residing heckler (the Toaster referring to an apartment building next to the Opera House that supposedly looks like ... a toaster) he "looks forward to annoying you for 3 more nights."
