It started with a simple query on a Facebook page, but now the story of fitness trainer Liz Krueger's stunning wedding outfit has made worldwide headlines.

Krueger is not a Kiwi, but an unidentified friend of hers posted this on the Facebook page of The Breeze Waikato.

From there, comments escalated. The debate was not simply about the skintight strapless and sheer-pannelled mini dress she donned on a 32°C day, but about whether Krueger '"deserved" the rude comments and bullying she received at the wedding.

As she put it on her own Instagram page: "If only I knew that choosing this dress for a wedding on a 90 degree day meant so many women would be outrightly rude to me, and even come up behind me slap my a** as I'm standing alone."

Krueger also had a drink deliberately poured over her, among other mean-spirited acts.

"Good thing for thick skin, being able to laugh at things and not take it personally, and good friends/hubby by my side," she added.

While most commenters applauded her right to wear whatever she liked to her friend's wedding, US-based Krueger had words for the haters too.

"I am not playing a victim. I am not attention seeking. I am not vain. I am not slutty," she posted on her Facebook page in response to another blogger's support.

"I was not trying to upstage a bride. I didn't have an agenda when I put on this dress. I'm not 'a model trying to heighten my career'."

She has even hit back with her own #kruegerkindness movement, inspiring women to compliment and support each other instead of bullying each other.

If this makes even one person rethink bullying over something as trivial as an outfit, we're all for it.
