W IS FOR WALL OF SOUND
If there was a label that defined the late 1990s in the UK , it was Wall of Sound. Fatboy Slim and the Chem may have been the cause but the label that carried Big Beat forward was Mark Jones’ Wall of Sound (now 15 years old).
Wiki: Wall of Sound is an alternative record label from the United Kingdom, founded by Mark Jones. It started out producing electronic music genres such as big beat and ambient, but has now diversified to include some indie and hip-hop artists. It is distinguished by utilising the Bauhaus font for its logo and some texts.
In early 2006 Wall of Sound merged with international independent distributor PIAS. Mark Jones is now at the helm of a “super-indie” with a revised roster of acts including the previous PIAS recordings artists Soulwax, Mogwai, Laurent Garnier and Amp Fiddler amongst others.
