Frequently Asked Questions

First time ordering online?

Great! Booktopia has 100, 000s of discounted Books, audio books, DVDs and ebooks for you to choose from. We post Australia-wide for only $6.95 per order. We offer a range secured payment methods including credit card, PayPal, cheque, money order or bank transfer. Here is a list of instructions on how to make your first order on our website:

  1. Go to the page of the product that you'd like to buy.
  2. Click on blue BUY NOW button to add it toy your shopping cart.
  3. If you wish to add more items to your cart, click on CONTINUE SHOPPING to continue to browse the site.
  4. When you are ready to complete your purchase, click on the blue CHECKOUT button.
  5. Review the list of items in your cart. You can change the quantities of the items or click the x button on the right-hand side to remove items you don't want to buy. When you are ready click on the blue CHECKOUT button on the bottom right.
  6. Fill the information on the right-hand side of the page under "New To Booktopia" including your name, email address and password for your new account. Then click the grey CONTINUE button below.
  7. Type in your contact number at the top of this page then click 'add new billing address' below on the right hand side. In the box that pops up, fill in your address details and click SAVE. If you wish to ship to another address, click on Ship to a different address on the left complete all the required fields and click SAVE.
  8. Click CONTINUE CHECKOUT to complete the Delivery Instructions. Before selecting Express Post you will need to check that your address is in Australia Post's Express Post Delivery Network.
  9. Click CONTINUE CHECKOUT for Payment and Review.
  10. Next review your order, check shipping details, if applicable enter and apply your promotion or gift certificate, store discount code and proceed down the page to the Payment Information section.
  11. Select your payment option. If paying by Credit Card complete the required information, acknowledge the Terms of Business by ticking the box at the bottom and click SUBMIT ORDER to complete your order. If paying by PayPal refer to the detailed section by clicking here.
  12. If you choose any of the "Other Payment Options" (Cheque, Money Order, Fax or Bank Transfer), all relevant information on where to transfer, send or fax your payment will be provided after you have clicked on SUBMIT ORDER.
  13. You order is completed and you are emailed a confirmation.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Every product on our website has a listed shipping expectation that is displayed on the product page and in the order summery in the web checkout. These expectations refer to the number of business days it is expected to take to process and dispatch the item from our Sydney warehouse. Different items have different shipping expectations dependent on stock availabilities. If you order different items with different shipping expectations, Booktopia will send consecutive parcels to complete the order rather than make you wait for everything to be sent together. You will only be charged for postage once.

Our deliveries are made using Australia Post's premium eParcel service. Delivery expectations to reach your locailty, once the parcel has been shipped from our warehouse, are summarised below:

Metro: Brisbane; Melbourne; Canberra 2 Business Days
Metro: Adelaide; Hobart 3 Business Days
VIC/SA/QLD Country Areas 3-5 Business days

WA/NT/TAS Country Areas 5-9 Business days (Booktopia's Experience)

These can vary, especially during peak times so please allow for these delivery times when ordering titles that are required for a gift or a specific date. Please note that if your order is placed during one of our sale periods, dispatch for In-Stock items can be delayed due to increased volume of orders.

Express Post

Booktopia offers an Express Post option for In Stock items only.

If you want your parcel delivered as quickly as possible you may also select Express Post for only $14.95 per order. Booktopia will then ship your Express Post parcel on the next business day.

Australia Post's Express Post Delivery Network offers next business day delivery and covers approximately 80% of Australian business addresses, private addresses and post office boxes. Where your address is outside of this network, Australia Post will use the fastest possible transport links, but it won't be covered by their "Next Day Guarantee".

As a general rule the Express Post Delivery Network only covers the major metropolitan areas in each state. As an approximate guide please refer to the following:

To upgrade your order to Express Post, please call Customer Service Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm AEST, to request Express Post and we can arrange to charge you for the extra delivery cost.

Where is my book?

If you'd like an update on where your order is, please log into you account and check on the order status. If the order has not been listed as shipped, refer to the shipping expectation of the item(s) ordered. If the order is outside the shipping expectation, you can contact us directly for an update by calling +612 9045 4394 Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm Sydney time or through our message centre.

If the order has been shipped, refer to the Australia Post eParcel tracking number applied to the parcel. This is emailed to you within 24 hours of the parcel leaving our warehouse. Use this tracking number on the Australia Post Website to get updates on the location of your parcel. If you think your parcel has been lost or delivered to the wrong address, please contact us by calling +612 9045 4394 Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm Sydney time or through our message centre.

Can I change my order?

Booktopia has a one working day 'cooling off period' in which you are welcome to contact us to change or cancel your order. After this period, Booktopia is not obliged to offer refunds to customers who change their minds and orders can be cancelled for store credit only. Please note that Booktopia cannot combine multiple orders after they have been made. I can't log in to My Account / Password reset

To log in to your Booktopia account, go to our Sign In page and enter your email and password under "Existing Customers".

If you have forgotten your password, Booktopia will send you a temporary password to your email which you can use to reset your password. Click here reset your password.
