The Eiffel Tower has been one of my goals for quite a while. Plan A for the Tower was to buy tickets to the second platform & climb out of one of the stairways. This immediately failed as it was just too busy. We didn't really have a plan B so we decided to commit to climbing right up the side from the ground & see what happens. We started the climb at 1AM narrowly avoiding the patrolling security (which seemed more like the French army as they were in full camo & had massive guns) & wormed our way through what seemed like endless CCTV cameras. Once we reached about 20 meters up the side of the tower it appeared we'd made it through what would normally be the riskiest part of any climb. As far as I could tell, the tower was ours for the night. After slowly making our way up through the framework of the Tower, we finally reached the top platform which was fully lit up. This is where we should have probably stopped but my curiosity got the better of me. I unlocked the door, slowly crept in and was immediately hit with the sound of a walkie talkie going absolutely mental in French. It was clear we'd been spotted so we legged it down a few stories & found a couple of holes inside the framework that we had no choice but to hide in. Hours went by with security going up & down with torches & they even turned on all of the towers lights during their search. The lights finally went off and the tower was ours again so we began the wait for sunrise. After a few more hours playing around on the tower workers & tourists started coming up in the lifts. We were spotted again around 9AM so we climbed down & met with security. We were handcuffed & taken to the local police station where we were held & questioned for around 6 hours before being released without charges (I also had to promise them I wouldn't climb it again for 3 years). I can now officially tick the Eiffel Tower off my list :)

Visiting the Eiffel Tower just got a new meaning. Extreme drone and POV footage from climbing the world's most famous tower.
It's almost impossible to get to the tower illegally (do not try to repeat this) especially in view of recent political developments and the ongoing European Football Championship. Police and national guard are always on duty on the premises of the tower.
The shoot was carried out in the rainy season. The level of Seine river broke the 30-year-old record and the wind speed reached up to 6m/s. The poor drone operator not only crashed the drone but also received a pretty big fine.

In July of 2009, I had just arrived in Paris and went to go see the Eiffel tower. I sat down in the Champ de Mars and set up my tripod and camera to take a nice sunset timelapse of the tower. After the time-lapse had begun, I quickly noticed that a storm was moving in and figured that I would get a chance to capture a bolt of lightning hitting the tower. I figured I was safe with my tiny metal tripod on the grass....at least until the rain moved it.
I was able to capture a few bolts directly hitting the tower and had to run for cover when the skies opened up and there was an absolute downpour.

The Eiffel Tower was built for the World's Fair in Paris in 1889 and was initially designed to be dismantled when the fair was over.
Construction began in 1887 when they laid the foundations by creating 2m thick concrete slabs under each of the feet. As two of the feet run alongside the river Seine engineers were worried water would creep in, so they created metal shoe structures which kept the French water at bay. A bit like a pair of welly boots.
To build the main body they shipped in 18,000 different parts that were prefabricated in a factory and they put them together on site at the banks of the Seine using a whopping 2.5 million rivets.
Construction was completed on 31st March 1889 and Gustave Eiffel was the very first person to climb ALL the 1,710 steps! It remained as the world's tallest structure in the world for 40 years!

This is a footage of the ride up on the Eiffel Tower's elevator. It's consisted of two separate elevators: the first one gets you either to first or second floor, on the first floor there's a restaurant. For those who want to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower, they need to switch to a second elevator that brings you to the top.
In my opinion, on the second floor there's much more to see and it's more seeable because there's no fencing and nothing blocks your view. On the top there's a crisscrossed fence which blocks your view, you can't take a picture or a shoot a video and it pretty much ruins the experience.

The tower is 324 metres (1,063 ft) tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building. Its base is square, 125 metres (410 ft) on a side. During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to become the tallest man-made structure in the world, a title it held for 41 years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. Due to the addition of the aerial at the top of the tower in 1957, it is now taller than the Chrysler Building by 5.2 metres (17 ft). Not including broadcast aerials, it is the second-tallest structure in France, after the Millau Viaduct.

CLIMBING THE EIFFEL TOWER + DRONE
Visiting the Eiffel Tower just got a new meaning. Extreme drone and POV footage from climbing the world's most famous tower. It's almost impossible to get to the tower illegally (do not try to repeat this) especially in view of recent political developments and the ongoing European Football Championship. Police and national guard are always on duty on the premises of the tower. The shoot was carried out in the rainy season. The level of Seine river broke the 30-year-old record and the wind speed reached up to 6m/s. The poor drone operator not only crashed the drone but also received a pretty big fine. Lightning hitting the Eiffel Tower: A timelapse from Paris
In July of 2009, I had just arrived in Paris and went to go see the Eiffel tower. I sat down in the Champ de Mars and set up my tripod and camera to take a nice sunset timelapse of the tower. After the time-lapse had begun, I quickly noticed that a storm was moving in and figured that I would get a chance to capture a bolt of lightning hitting the tower. I figured I was safe with my tiny metal tripod on the grass....at least until the rain moved it. I was able to capture a few bolts directly hitting the tower and had to run for cover when the skies opened up and there was an absolute downpour. Production music courtesy of Epidemic Sound

How was the Eiffel Tower built? I Sci Guide with Jheni Osman I Head Squeeze
The Eiffel Tower was built for the World's Fair in Paris in 1889 and was initially designed to be dismantled when the fair was over. Construction began in 1887 when they laid the foundations by creating 2m thick concrete slabs under each of the feet. As two of the feet run alongside the river Seine engineers were worried water would creep in, so they created metal shoe structures which kept the French water at bay. A bit like a pair of welly boots. To build the main body they shipped in 18,000 different parts that were prefabricated in a factory and they put them together on site at the banks of the Seine using a whopping 2.5 million rivets. Construction was completed on 31st March 1889 and Gustave Eiffel was the very first person to climb ALL the 1,710 steps! It remained as the worl...

Eiffel Tower Elevator Ride
This is a footage of the ride up on the Eiffel Tower's elevator. It's consisted of two separate elevators: the first one gets you either to first or second floor, on the first floor there's a restaurant. For those who want to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower, they need to switch to a second elevator that brings you to the top. In my opinion, on the second floor there's much more to see and it's more seeable because there's no fencing and nothing blocks your view. On the top there's a crisscrossed fence which blocks your view, you can't take a picture or a shoot a video and it pretty much ruins the experience.

The Eiffel Tower has been one of my goals for quite a while. Plan A for the Tower was to buy tickets to the second platform & climb out of one of the stairways....
The Eiffel Tower has been one of my goals for quite a while. Plan A for the Tower was to buy tickets to the second platform & climb out of one of the stairways. This immediately failed as it was just too busy. We didn't really have a plan B so we decided to commit to climbing right up the side from the ground & see what happens. We started the climb at 1AM narrowly avoiding the patrolling security (which seemed more like the French army as they were in full camo & had massive guns) & wormed our way through what seemed like endless CCTV cameras. Once we reached about 20 meters up the side of the tower it appeared we'd made it through what would normally be the riskiest part of any climb. As far as I could tell, the tower was ours for the night. After slowly making our way up through the framework of the Tower, we finally reached the top platform which was fully lit up. This is where we should have probably stopped but my curiosity got the better of me. I unlocked the door, slowly crept in and was immediately hit with the sound of a walkie talkie going absolutely mental in French. It was clear we'd been spotted so we legged it down a few stories & found a couple of holes inside the framework that we had no choice but to hide in. Hours went by with security going up & down with torches & they even turned on all of the towers lights during their search. The lights finally went off and the tower was ours again so we began the wait for sunrise. After a few more hours playing around on the tower workers & tourists started coming up in the lifts. We were spotted again around 9AM so we climbed down & met with security. We were handcuffed & taken to the local police station where we were held & questioned for around 6 hours before being released without charges (I also had to promise them I wouldn't climb it again for 3 years). I can now officially tick the Eiffel Tower off my list :)

This is a footage of the ride up on the Eiffel Tower's elevator. It's consisted of two separate elevators: the first one gets you either to first or second floor, on the first floor there's a restaurant. For those who want to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower, they need to switch to a second elevator that brings you to the top.
In my opinion, on the second floor there's much more to see and it's more seeable because there's no fencing and nothing blocks your view. On the top there's a crisscrossed fence which blocks your view, you can't take a picture or a shoot a video and it pretty much ruins the experience.

Here's some sightseeing tour guide advice when travelling alone (solo).
With four days off from work, I hopped onto the first flight to Paris the next day.
This is the first episode of my attempt to revisit my favorite places in Paris, France in 2 days.
It's amazing how little Paris has changed since my last visit seven years ago.
Some travel tips :
1. Because I'm travelling as a non-revenue passenger, I always wait until I arrive before I book my hotel (using the free airport Wi-Fi).
2. Remember that U.S. credit cards don't always work in Europe, so use cash for daily transactions.
3. To avoid theft, wear a money belt containing your essentials : Passport, credit cards, cash and your return plane ticket home.
4. Use the Tourist Information booth at the airport (terminal 1, usually no lines) !
Buy yourself a Paris Museum Pass to skip the many ticket buying lines in Paris (although the Museum Pass excludes the Eiffel Tower).
5. Buy a Paris Visite day pass for zones 1-3 or buy a 10 ticket "carnet" (which is cheaper) to get around Paris.
6. For transportation, I recommend taking the RER B train into Paris versus the Roissy bus. Trains are almost always faster because they aren't slowed down by traffic and yet have more stops to choose from.
The Roissy bus only makes one stop in the city, at Place de l'Opera.

I would say that if you really want to visit the art galleries, the museums and all of the main attractions you should probably avoid summer and like either come in the spring or the fall or even winter. Because the lines are insane and sometimes you have to wait like an hour and a half or two hours.
So how about you? What are your final thoughts on Paris? So my finals thoughts is obviously Paris is one of the top cities in the world in terms of attractions. There is going to be garbage, there is going to be lines, there is going to be some areas that are a bit of an eyesore. But there is also a lot of beauty and there is also a lot to do here.

The climb from ground level to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the climb from the first level to the second. Although there is a staircase to the top level, it is usually only accessible by lift.
The design of the Eiffel Tower was the product of Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, two senior engineers working for the Compagnie des Établissements Eiffel, after discussion about a suitable centrepiece for the proposed 1889 Exposition Universelle, a world's fair to celebrate the centennial of the French Revolution. Eiffel openly acknowledged that inspiration for a tower came from the Latting Observatory built in New York City in 1853. In May 1884, working at home, Koechlin made a sketch of their idea, described by him as "a great pylon, consisting of four lattice girders standing apart at the base and coming together at the top, joined together by metal trusses at regular intervals". Eiffel initially showed little enthusiasm, but he did approve further study, and the two engineers then asked Stephen Sauvestre, the head of company's architectural department, to contribute to the design. Sauvestre added decorative arches to the base of the tower, a glass pavilion to the first level, and other embellishments.
The new version gained Eiffel's support: he bought the rights to the patent on the design which Koechlin, Nougier, and Sauvestre had taken out, and the design was exhibited at the Exhibition of Decorative Arts in the autumn of 1884 under the company name. Total area needed is 23 by 23 blocks, so as each foot of the tower is 5 by 5, the space between each tower clay foot is 13 blocks!

A large, unidentified metal object fell from the sky yesterday (Nov. 10) in the remote mountainous region of Myanmar. The cylindrical object, which is about 12 feet (3.7 meters) long and 5 feet in diameter, blasted into the village of Lone Khin, near a jade mine. Villagers woke early in the morning to a loud boom and vibrations, when the object fell to the ground ... The explosion made our houses shake....
