On my way to the airport, I decided to set up the tripod and take some footage of the people that live and work here to remember the trip. I went to college and worked in Downtown Manhattan for a number of years so I knew the area quite well. But each time I go back there, after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, things are so different, so much is missing, and I get such a knot in my stomach.
Remember, this is a place of remembrance and not a tourist sight.

Manhattan (/mænˈhætən/, /mənˈhætən/) is one of the five boroughs of New York City, in the state of New York in the United States. The borough is coterminous with New York County, founded on November 1, 1683 as one of the state's original counties. The borough consists mostly of Manhattan Island, bounded by the East, Hudson, and Harlem Rivers, and also includes several small adjacent islands and Marble Hill, a small neighborhood on the mainland.
Manhattan is often said to be the economic and cultural center of the United States and hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and Manhattan is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many multinational media conglomerates are based in the borough. Historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626, for the equivalent of US$1050, Manhattan real estate has since become among the most expensive in the world, with the value of Manhattan Island, including real estate, estimated to exceed US$3 trillion in 2013.

Lower Manhattan
Lower Manhattan, also known as Downtown Manhattan, is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York, which itself originated at the southern tip of Manhattan Island in 1624.
Geography
Lower Manhattan is defined most commonly as the area delineated on the north by 14th Street, on the west by the Hudson River, on the east by the East River, and on the south by New York Harbor (also known as Upper New York Bay). When referring specifically to the Lower Manhattan business district and its immediate environs, the northern border is commonly designated by thoroughfares approximately a mile-and-a-half south of 14th Street and a mile north of the island's southern tip: Chambers Street from near the Hudson east to the Brooklyn Bridge entrances and overpass. Two other major arteries are also sometimes identified as the northern border of "Lower" or "Downtown Manhattan": Canal Street, roughly half a mile north of Chambers Street, and 23rd Street, roughly half a mile north of 14th Street.

Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Here are some Things to do in NYC :) This 1st of a "Things to do in NYC" is the BASICS. I will do more in depth videos on neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, Lower East Side which will include shopping, entertainment, eating, all that :) But for now I hope you find this helpful and excited about exploring NYC. I didn't "forget" to list anything. This is just the first video and trust their are a million things to do. Sorry for not including Brooklyn. Need to get around? Rent a bike! I have yet to try this but it seems fabulous! Save your feet and cover more ground. These bikes and bike spots are all over the city. A perfect way to burn calories and see more of the city faster.

Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. This is a non-denominal church and people from all over the world come here for the amazing sermons and not to mention the interior. This Church is a converted theatre and a must see. Now go and pray!

Special Day in Lower Manhattan
Since Sarah was finished with School but not coming home for a few days, we decided to drive into lower Manhattan and meet her for lunch. She came over on the ferry from Staten Island (where her college is) and we met in Battery Park City at lovely restaurant that had views of the Hudson River and New York Harbor. It was a really pretty day, and I had never been to that part of teh city before. We went to the 9/11 memorial and I have to say I was feeling really weird, and really sad there. It was such a somber but beautiful place. So sad. We had the best day otherwise, grabbed some fancy pastries and ice coffee and Sarah went back to the subway to catch the ferry back across the Harbor. Since Sarah was finished with School but not coming home for a few days, we decided to drive into lower Manhattan and meet her for lunch. She came over on the ...
Since Sarah was finished with School but not coming home for a few days, we decided to drive into lower Manhattan and meet her for lunch. She came over on the ferry from Staten Island (where her college is) and we met in Battery Park City at lovely restaurant that had views of the Hudson River and New York Harbor.
It was a really pretty day, and I had never been to that part of teh city before. We went to the 9/11 memorial and I have to say I was feeling really weird, and really sad there. It was such a somber but beautiful place. So sad. We had the best day otherwise, grabbed some fancy pastries and ice coffee and Sarah went back to the subway to catch the ferry back across the Harbor. I loved that part of Manhattan, it was really pretty, lots of little green parks, and boats, and smiling people. Daniel was home with the nurse because it is hard to get around with him these days, what with all of the muscle spasms.
I hope you enjoy the footage of NYC, it was a gorgeous day.About my channel.......
My middle son, Daniel John Hasselberger was born on November 22, 1997, with a rare brain deformity called Polymicrogyria. The deformity happened due to a virus called CMV, or cytomegalovirus. He has seizures, respiratory problems, can only eat by g tube, is in a wheelchair, can not speak, and has had countless surgeries and hospitalizations over his 17 years. We are a family of 5 from Sandy Hook, CT and this is our journey.
Every day is full of new things that we don’t expect. I am Julie, Daniel’s Mom. I left my full time career as an HR Director 11 years ago because Daniel needed me. The struggle, the sacrifices, the sibling love, and miracle after miracle.
Why did I create this channel? For support, to help other families dealing with the same diagnosis, to help me cope with depression and isolation, etc. Please leave comments and help us grow and develop this channel. Life is incredible, and I want to share our story.
