Industrious Sunbury students duct in for some fun

SUNBURY Primary School students are enjoying the spoils of their new industrial play pod area.

The playground includes rustic and recycled play equipment and a stock of recycled materials, such as flexible ducts and foam floats in a natural open space area.

It was opened on Friday by Sunbury state Labor MP Josh Bull.

The $50,000 playground was supported by $20,000 from the State Government’s inclusive schools fund.

It’s one of nine initiatives funded in the Special Needs Plan for Victorian Schools.

The sensory spaces and equipment will be used by students from both the primary school and neighbouring Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School.

The new digs got a big thumbs up from students.

Ashley, 9, said his favourite parts of the play pod were recycled materials where you could create your own games.

“You can pull out all this stuff and make up ways to play,” he said.

Eight-year-old Mataya told Leader she loved the garden and enjoyed having her first play there on Friday.

Mr Bull said the school and school council had worked hard to deliver the project.

“This will be a place of interpretative and imaginative play and for me it represents a place where kids can be kids,” he said.

“In government you get to do big things and little things and for this school community, this is going to make a vital difference.”
