Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) (song)

"Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" (Korean: 소원을 말해봐 (Genie); Sowoneul Malhaebwa (Genie)) is a song by South Korean girl group Girls' Generation, taken from their debut extended play with the same name (2009). The song was written by Anne Judith Wik, Robin Jenssen, Ronny Svendsen, Nermin Harambasic, Fridolin Nordso and Yoo Young-jin, with production handled by Young-jin. An uptempo electropop and dance pop track, "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" was recorded in their native Korean language and Japanese language, their first song in the latter. The lyrical content discusses themes of love.

With a Korean version released in June 2009 and the Japanese version in September 2010 respectively, "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" was met with positive reviews by most music critics, many of whom commended the songs production and vocal abilities. However, some critics felt the song was generic. Commercially, the song charted on several Korean and Japanese online charts. It reached number four on the Japanese Oricon Singles Chart and number two on the Gaon Albums Chart in their respective languages. The song has sold over 600,000 units in Japan.

Girls' Generation

Girls' Generation (Hangul: 소녀시대; So Nyeo Si Dae), also known as SNSD, is a South Korean girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment. The group is composed of eight (formerly nine) members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. Girls' Generation officially debuted on August 5, 2007 with its debut single "Into the New World" and subsequently gained some attention with their self-titled debut album. However, it was not until 2009 that they rose to prominence with the single "Gee", which claimed the top spot on KBS's Music Bank for a record-breaking nine consecutive weeks and was named the most popular song of the 2000s decade by Melon. The group solidified their place in the South Korean music industry with follow-up singles "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)", "Oh!", and "Run Devil Run" from late 2009 to early 2010.

In mid-2010, the group signed with Nayutawave Records (present-day EMI Records Japan) to embark into the Japanese music scene. In April 2011, Girls' Generation's Japanese self-titled debut album was released, which peaked atop the Japanese Oricon Albums Chart and became the first album by a South Korean girl group to achieve a double Platinum certification by the RIAJ. The group returned to the South Korean music scene in October 2011 with The Boys, which has sold over 457,000 copies in South Korea, becoming the best-selling album in the Gaon chart history since its launch in 2010. During this time, the group also expanded their endeavor to the United States by signing with Interscope Records. In 2013, Girls' Generation's fourth Korean studio album titled I Got a Boy was released. The title track was subjected to major attention from western media after it was awarded Video of the Year at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards.

Jinn

Jinn (Arabic: الجن‎, al-jinn), also romanized as djinn or anglicized as genies, are supernatural creatures in early Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology. An individual member of the jinn is known as a jinni, djinni, or genie (الجني, al-jinnī). They are mentioned frequently in the Quran (the 72nd sura is titled Sūrat al-Jinn) and other Islamic texts and inhabit an unseen world, another universe beyond the known universe. The Quran says that the jinn are made of a smokeless and "scorching fire", but are also physical in nature, being able to interact in a tactile manner with people and objects and likewise be acted upon. The jinn, humans, and angels make up the three known sapient creations of God. Like human beings, the jinn can be good, evil, or neutrally benevolent and hence have free will like humans. The shaytan jinn are akin to demons in Christian tradition, but the jinn are not angels and the Quran draws a clear distinction between the two creations. The Quran states in Sūrat al-Kahf (The Cave), Ayah 50, that Iblis (Azazel) is one of the jinn.
