socialism in usa

Socialism is a common-sense path to a fairer, more prosperous and more democratic USA. Socialism is also a desperate necessity as capitalism and its unrelenting drive for profits threaten to make our planet uninhabitable. Working families in America – the 99% - between us create all the products and services that make our country the richest nation in the history of humankind. It doesn’t make sense that these collectively produced resources are owned and controlled by a tiny handful of billionaires. The fight for socialism is a dynamic process to fulfill the vision of a future of peace, justice and fairness for our nation and our world.

NLRB stops U.S. Postal Service privatization scheme

WASHINGTON – The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has squelched an attempt by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to privatize and contract out some of its services. NLRB Administrative Law Judge Paul Bogas ruled that USPS must immediately end its partnership with Staples in a scheme to take jobs away...

Three decades ago, Vietnam embarked on what it calls a "renewal" process that brought rapid development after years of war, famine, and poverty. The ideological and economic approach of combining their socialist goals with a market system has seen many gains, but also brought new dangers. During a recent visit to Vietnam, People's World sat down with Bui The Giang, the Director General for Western Europe and North America Affairs for the Communist Party of Vietnam's Commission of External Relations. In the course of this in-depth talk, Giang discussed Vietnam's journey towards economic prosperity, its commitment to sticking to a...

In Engel’s address at the graveside of Karl Marx, he said “Marx discovered the law of development of human history: the simple fact, hitherto concealed by an overgrowth of ideology, that mankind must first of all eat, drink, have shelter and clothing, before it can pursue politics, science, art, religion, etc.” Another pertinent quote is that according to the labor theory of value, “all value comes from nature altered by human labor.” In the past, Marxists have focused on the labor part of that equation, noting that how human labor is organized, how production is organized, is the fundamental determinant...

The Southern California district of the CPUSA, has been connecting with various social justice groups for several years, which has made it possible for us to join together and hold several activities in the community. One such event was a 6-week introductory course on Marxism in Spanish. At each session we had a home cooked meal which facilitated the participant's attendance by not having to stop and have dinner elsewhere. This allowed us to socialize for half an hour before each session. The courses included, imperialism, historical materialism, dialectical materialism, methodology, women's equality and Latin America and the path to...

  • Q
How does the CPUSA feel about the current American foreign policy and our large role in NATO and our actions in the Middle East? Why does our government intervene in foreign conflicts and waste American lives and American money that could be used on domestic projects? - Conlan
  • A
Thanks for a great question, Conlan.  CPUSA stands for peace and international solidarity, and has a long history of involvement in the anti-war movement.  The foundation of this commitment lies in our understanding that most wars under capitalism occur for the benefit of the ruling class.  War is a primary tool of imperialism: the competition for access to resources, domination of markets, and maintenance of political regimes who will keep profits flowing.  Moreover, war gives a direct financial benefit to the shareholders of defense contractors (like Halliburton, which made over 35 billion dollars on the war in Iraq). War is a great game for the ruling class because we're the ones who pay its terrible costs.  The capitalist war machine...
