Remembering 1968: The return of Richard Nixon
Richard Schlesinger looks back at the hard-fought race for the presidency in the turbulent year of 1968, when President Johnson withdrew from seeking re-election, and Richard Nixon – following losses in runs for the White House and the California Governor's Mansion – won the Republican presidential nomination and, ultimately, the presidency. Richard Schlesinger talks with biographer Evan Thomas, Nixon aide Dwight Chapin and speechwriter Pat Buchanan, and with then-Senator Walter Mondale, about the unpredictable contest between a law-and-order candidate hoping to shed his image as a "loser," and a sitting vice president breaking from his own administration to vow an end to the bombing of North Vietnam.

We ate a Wigan kebab - the weirdest meal in the north?
What is a Wigan Kebab? Or a pey wet?
These are all good questions and may not make sense to you unless you frequent or are from Wigan in Greater Manchester.
Every region in every country has their own delicacies which delight and confuse in equal measure. London (east, in particular) is famously fond of jellied eels, something which would repulse a large number of people.
The Wigan Kebab takes two things that sound familiar - 'Wigan' and 'kebab' - and turn them into something that is hardly the thing you pictured initially.
A Wigan Kebab is not actually a kebab and is in fact a pie inside a bap. Yeah, it sounds brilliant.
We sent one very large man down to try one, and here's what he thought.

Join us as we chat to Joe Gilmore with his title talked: What is a Book?
Joe Gilmore is a graphic designer, artist and educator based in York. He designs books, exhibition catalogues, music packaging, identities and websites for artists, galleries and cultural institutions, businesses and individuals. In addition to client-based work, Joe initiates and produces independent curatorial, artistic and research projects which focus on typography, book-making, audio art and graphic design. This talk investigates Gilmore’s self-initiated, independent practice, primarily covering his experimental approach to typography, book-making and design. It explores how this method of working can be used as an investigative tool for probing the function of graphic design and communication.
Join YDW co-founder and Creative Director of United by Design; Owen Turner, Bright Young Things founder and Designer at Wrapped Agency; Laura Sanderson and Designer and Creative Millie Davis with a specially curated day of inspiring and insightful presentations, talks and Q&As; that spotlight talent from across the Yorkshire region and beyond.
