The ABC offers a range of jobs and career support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As the national broadcaster, we are committed to growing our Indigenous workforce, increasing cultural awareness and providing content and services that tell Indigenous stories. The ABC’s Reconciliation Action Plan (PDF) outlines our commitment to cultural understanding and respect, employment, content and community links.

What do we do?

The ABC is much more than what you see on TV or hear on the radio or read online. We have 80 different careers, ranging from set builders to lawyers, visual designers, marketing, administration, graphics, staging, computing and accounting. As for a media career—with ABC radio, TV, news, sports and online, there’s plenty to choose from.

The ABC operates from 60 offices in cities, towns and regional centres around Australia as well as 14 international bureaux. That means you can work close to home or start somewhere fresh. And so many locations mean great opportunities to move around too.

This program matches mid-career staff with early-career colleagues to support Indigenous staff in career planning, skills development, organisational culture and other aspects of their employment.

Indigenous Intern Support: How it works

The Indigenous Cadetship Scheme (ICS) is a service that brings together Indigenous tertiary students with a nominated organisation - matching studies and qualifications with job placements.

The program connects students with their preferred employer/organisation as part of their full-time study. Once selected, Interns are paid a study allowance over their 40-week academic year and will be engaged to work with the ABC on a contract basis for 12 weeks (60 days) per year. Read about the program and create a profile on the ICS website www.ics.deewr.gov.au
