A&K named its most popular destinations for the year as India, South Africa, Australia, Myanmar and Botswana.

Sales to India soared a startling 70 per cent, aided by competitive airfares and online visas, while the exchange rate in South Africa was the big attraction for travellers.

And the northern Indian region of Ladakh is set to become one of the next big destinations, according to A&K’s predictions for 2017.

In contrast, A&K noticed a dramatic drop in trips to Turkey due to terrorist attacks and a military coup.

Travellers also thought twice about South America because of the Zika virus while France’s tragedy took its toll on holiday plans.
