Bag snatched in driveway caught on camera

Security footage of a man stealing a handbag from a parked car is doing the rounds on social media as a warning to residents in Burns Beach.

"This scum bag has been doing the rounds in Burns Beach," he wrote on social media about the incident on Wednesday afternoon.

"Popped inside to my mum's place for five to 10 minutes. Our daughter, who was then in the house, must of wound down the rear window without her knowing, car was locked. Black Sportsgirl-type bag was stolen."

Security camera vision shows a man dressed in a black baseball cap, black shirt, black shorts, black shoes and white socks riding a mountain bike up to the car window.

He then peers in to spot the handbag, parks the bike so he can reach inside the open window and inserts his torso all the way inside, balancing his hips on the sill.

After grasping around for a few seconds, the man takes the bag, mounts his bike and rides off.

The man behind the Facebook post is now hoping anyone who sees the vision can help identify the thief gets in touch with police.

In recent months police have been running campaigns across Perth alerting people to the risks of leaving valuables in their cars, warning that thieves go for easy targets.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
