The exclusive and leafy Monomeath Avenue, in Canterbury. Photo: Pat Scala Property developer Ron Englehart has upsized in Canterbury’s ritzy Monomeath Avenue, paying $5.1 million for historic home Bonbret, which is across the road from his smaller, contemporary abode.
Being demolished at the moment, the 1910 Edwardian with four bedrooms, a study and a pool, occupied a 1021-square-metre plot in the tree-lined street revered for its grand homes and wealthy occupants.
Mr Englehart is planning to construct a family-sized home on the site and enjoy a large backyard for the first time.

The businessman’s current Monomeath Avenue pile is on a much smaller block – the brick and rendered home, with Georgian design cues, is one of four dwellings which replaced a former mansion site controversially razed and subdivided in 1995.
Two months ago, another prestige home builder, Glenvill Group director Len Warson, paid $9.4 million for a historic mansion in Prahran’s Grandview Grove.
