Lily-Rose Melody Depp (born May 27, 1999) is a French-American actress and model. She is the daughter of American actor Johnny Depp and French singer, actress, and model Vanessa Paradis. Depp is featured on her mother's album Bliss and is popular on social media.

Early life[edit]

Lily-Rose Melody Depp was born to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis in Paris, France, on May 27, 1999.[1] Paradis is from Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France, the daughter of interior designers André and Corinne Paradis. After Depp and Paradis split in 2012 after 14 years together, they set up shared joint custody of Lily-Rose, who splits her time between Los Angeles and Paris.[2]

Depp is the older sister of John "Jack" Christopher Depp III.[3] She is the niece of French actress Alysson Paradis.[4][5] Depp is fluent in French.[6]

Career[edit]

Depp began her acting career with a cameo role in Tusk, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2014. She acted alongside her friend Harley Quinn Smith, her father, and the film's director Kevin Smith.[7] In April 2015, Depp posed for a photo-shoot in the Australian magazine Oyster by Dana Boulos and Maggie Silverman.[8] She appears with Irish rapper Rejjie Snow in his video for "All Around the World", which was released in October.[9]

Depp reprised her Tusk role in Yoga Hosers, a spin-off that focuses on her and Harley Quinn Smith's characters and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2016.[10] In May, she was announced as the face of Chanel's new fragrance No°5 L'Eau.[11] That same month, The Dancer, in which Depp plays Isadora Duncan, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category. The film is Stéphanie Di Giusto’s directorial debut.[12] Depp and Natalie Portman co-starred in Rebecca Zlotowski’s Planetarium as two spiritualist sisters in 1930s France. The film had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September.[13] Depp appeared on the front cover of British Vogue in their December issue.[14] She is set to reprise her Tusk and Yoga Hosers role in Moose Jaws.[15]

Personal life[edit]

Since Depp's birth, she has been the subject of tabloid and media reporting, including birthdays,[16][17] attendance at society events,[18] and reviews of her fashion choices.[19]

In August 2015, Depp posed for iO Tillett Wright's Self-Evident Truths Project, stating she falls somewhere on the LGBTQ spectrum.[20][21] Although being too young to vote, she supported Bernie Sanders during the 2016 presidential election.[22] Depp dropped out of high school in 2016 to focus on her acting career.[23] She has struggled with anorexia in the past and is now recovering.[24]
