Man arrested after police chase in Perth's south east

A MAN is behind bars after allegedly trying to swim to freedom following a police pursuit through Perth's south east yesterday.

The action was captured from the police helicopter as a van allegedly driven by the 26-year-old weaved through traffic before turning into a dead end street leading to the Canning River.

The man jumped from the moving vehicle at the end of Liege Street before diving into the river, closely followed by a police officer.

Wet and Wild

Wet and Wild – Yesterday our Regional Investigations Unit detectives located a man subject to a Return to Prison Warrant, however it would appear he did not want to go back there. His attempts to evade several police units that went to the assistance of RIU came to an abrupt halt when he abandoned his van on Liege Street Cannington and jumped into the Canning River. One of our officers flew into the water at a speed which would out swim Michael Klim & arrested the 26 year old man. He has subsequently been returned to prison and will face further charges regarding his manner of driving. PS: Who knew getting that Bronze Medallion to become a Copper would come in so handy!
