Local Muslim community speaks about concerns on Donald Trump
PALM BEACH COUNTY (CBS12) — Reaction is still pouring in from local groups commenting on the new President-Elect, Donald Trump.
Along them: the Muslim Community.
Donald Trump has publicly linked Muslims to terrorists, saying he would place on all Muslims entering the United States. So now, the group is attempting to turn that negative rhetoric into a positive interaction.
Wednesday night, various Muslim organizations hosted an "Islamophobia Forum" to open dialogue. Amna Alain, an Adjunct Professor at Palm Beach State College, said, "We're suffering and that needs to stop."
In the past several years, the Florida Muslim Community has experienced a 500-percent increase in crimes. Wilfredo Ruiz, the Director for CAIR National, explained, "That goes from people communicating a threat, to mosques being arsoned, to houses of Muslims being shot at, to kids being bullied at school by teachers."
This drastic increase was under the Obama Administration. Now, Muslims in South Florida say the election has made things even worse. Ruiz elaborated, "That was a big error from trump. He wanted to blanket the Muslims with a few exceptions."
This means the nearly 700,00 practicing Muslims in Florida are on high alert as he prepares to step into the White House. Alain shared, "We're very scared. We are Americans. We don't consider ourselves anything less than that. We love this country. We are going to fight for this country like any American would. We don't want to be cast out as the enemies. That's not who we are."
Instead, Muslims encourage getting to know one another before judging. Ruiz explained that 2/3 of Americans do not know a Muslim person, and believed that simply interacting together will relieve the animosity. Alain , "We're glad that we're here tonight to get the message out, that we need to make sure going forward the hate stops."

Trump backer says it is time America stops worrying about 'poor Muslim refugees'
DONALD Trump was elected president because “Americans still care about America” and stopped thinking about “poor illegal aliens,” according to a political commentator.
The Trump supporter explained that immigration was the key reason why Americans elected Mr Trump as the 45th US president.
Mr Trump secured his astonishing victory on Wednesday after Hillary Clinton lost a series of critical swing states.
Speaking to The National Ms Coulter, a vocal supporter of Mr Trump from the outset of his campaign, said: “The chants that came to define his campaign was immediately and right through to the end was 'Build the wall'.
“Can we think about Americans for a little while, we’ve been thinking about the poor illegal aliens and the poor Muslim refugees who aren’t living in this country already.
“But what about the people who are already here.”
The “New Trumpian Republican party” supporter said she had no doubt Mr Trump would honour his pledge to build a wall along the US border with Mexico.
Ms Coulter, a controversial and divisive figure for many Americans, said eventually "millions" of illegal immigrants will be deported from the US.
She also said there would be a "general policy" against Muslims – although there would be "exceptions".
“Both political parties have completely let the nation down on defending the borders and protecting Americans," she continued.

Donald Trump has publicly linked Muslims to terrorists, saying he would place on all Muslims entering the United States. So now, the group is attempting to turn that negative rhetoric into a positive interaction.
Wednesday night, various Muslim organizations hosted an "Islamophobia Forum" to open dialogue. Amna Alain, an Adjunct Professor at Palm Beach State College, said, "We're suffering and that needs to stop."
In the past several years, the Florida Muslim Community has experienced a 500-percent increase in crimes. Wilfredo Ruiz, the Director for CAIR National, explained, "That goes from people communicating a threat, to mosques being arsoned, to houses of Muslims being shot at, to kids being bullied at school by teachers."
This drastic increase was under the Obama Administration. Now, Muslims in South Florida say the election has made things even worse. Ruiz elaborated, "That was a big error from trump. He wanted to blanket the Muslims with a few exceptions."
This means the nearly 700,00 practicing Muslims in Florida are on high alert as he prepares to step into the White House. Alain shared, "We're very scared. We are Americans. We don't consider ourselves anything less than that. We love this country. We are going to fight for this country like any American would. We don't want to be cast out as the enemies. That's not who we are."
Instead, Muslims encourage getting to know one another before judging. Ruiz explained that 2/3 of Americans do not know a Muslim person, and believed that simply interacting together will relieve the animosity. Alain , "We're glad that we're here tonight to get the message out, that we need to make sure going forward the hate stops."
