World record as of 9/29/2016 I have a license to use Nintendo’s content in this video through the Nintendo Creators Program. I have been in 2nd place in this game for years but I finally was able to beat the world record. This run is 1 frame (1/60th of a second) faster than the previous world record by darbian (4:57.244). This run is highly competitive and I'm very happy with this achievement! I'll be doing more attempts to try to get a 4:56:XX time. If anything looks unusual to you in this speedrun, look through this list of frequently asked questions: Q: How did you skip the flag coming down in 1-1? Why didn't you do that on other levels? A: This is an old trick but new for humans to be able to pull off. Someone by the name of Sockfolder figured out a somewhat consistent way to do this. It's hard to do multiple times in one run, but future runs will do it more than once. A: This is an old game and a lot of the enemy hitboxes aren't in line with the enemy sprites. Look at this picture to see what i mean http://i.imgur.com/DpY0WaS.png Q: How did the pipe in 4-2 take you to the warp zone? Aren't you supposed to climb the vine? A: Jumping backwards into walls changes mario's position on the screen and tricks the game into sending you to the wrong place. I do a similar thing in the 3rd room of 8-4. A: By jumping at a very precise spot on the pipe mario will actually stand inside of the pipe for 1/60th of a second, and if you press the jump button during this period of time you will jump. A: Sometimes you simply jump through a gap in the hammers, and sometimes you actually go right through a hammer. This is because the game can't always handle having all those hammers on screen at once, so some of them don't have hitboxes.
