South Korean leaders are known for their scandals, and the latest is no exception.
There are mounting calls for President Park to resign.
Protesters are angry about her close friendship with a woman named Choi Soon-sil, who has allegedly helped her with political appointments and policy decisions, even though she's a private citizen without security clearance. Park has apologised, sacked several advisers, including her chief of staff, and cancelled meetings to deal with the unrest.
But seven out of ten South Koreans still say they want her to step down or be impeached.

South Korea's presidential office has moved to quash rumors about President Park Geun-hye's seven-hour absence on the day of the Sewol-ho ferry disaster.
The rumors say that the president was outside her office or receiving some kind of treatment on the day of the incident, which prevented her from handling the massive disaster.
"There were no visitors or hospital vehicles coming in or out of Cheong Wa Dae on April 16th. The president was at her desk, committed to work as usual."
The presidential spokesperson said President Park received 15 status reports on the situation over the course of the day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and received regular reports from her chief aides, including one from the welfare secretary.
Several media outlets have reported... that the president was receiving aesthetic treatment or plastic surgery at the presidential office on the day the Sewol-ho ferry sank in waters off Korea's southwest coast in April 16th 2014,... leaving over 300 people dead, most of them high school students on a field trip.

President Park Geun-hye spoke with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on the phone on Thursday,... reaffirming their countries' strong ties.
The next American president pledged to be with South Korea one-hundred percent.... and he vowed that the U.S. will protect its Asian ally against an unpredictable North Korea.
Song Ji-sun starts us off.
President Park Geun-hye and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's first conversation on the phone took place in a friendly atmosphere, using "easy" words. The phone conversation, which lasted about 10 minutes, was made less than 24 hours since Trump's victory.
Saying that the ROK-U.S. alliance has contributed to building peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, President Park expressed hope for a stronger alliance, and for the U.S. to exert a stronger leadership in making a peaceful and prosperous world.
She also highlighted the need for close coordination between Seoul and Washington to deter possible North Korean provocations, noting that Pyongyang has had the tendency of carrying out such actions during the transition period between administrations in the U.S.
Stressing that the allies will all be safe together -- Trump said he agrees one hundred percent with President Park... and that the U.S. is going to be with South Korea 100-percent, all the way - unwavering.
"President Park said she looks forward to further strengthen and develop the ROK-US alliance in various areas of common interests in the future. President-elect Trump said that the U.S. is with Korea 100% and that it will be steadfast and strong in protecting South Korea against the instablility in North Korea."
Park and Trump also said they look forward to meeting each other soon in the near future.
"Over the next months before Trump takes the Oval Office... President Park will seek to convey Seoul's stance and its strategies through various diplomatic channels,...in order to have them reflected in the new U.S. administration's policy directions.

South Korea appears ready for another chapter of renewed Seoul-Washington relations.
Seoul's foreign ministry says it has undertaken thorough preparations for the new U.S. leadership... and will concentrate on continuing the allies' cooperation on dealing with North Korea.
"The government hopes to be part of a multilateral effort to put North Korea on the path to denuclearization,... by maintaining and developing the current focus on sanctions and pressure,... and we will work with the new U.S. administration, beginning with the transition phase."
Ministry officials have been emphasizing Donald Trump's remarks that North Korea's nuclear program has the potential to become a global catastrophe.
To jump start discussions on the subject, the foreign ministry plans to send its special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, Kim Hong-kyun, to the U.S. as soon as possible to meet with the U.S. president-elect's key diplomacy and security representatives.
"The ministry expressed the hope that the South Korea-U.S. pressure on North Korea would increase,... which it hopes will also lead to greater pressure on China to take a bigger role in denuclearizing North Korea."
Still, there are lingering concerns in South Korea,... as Trump has said on several occasions that he could withdraw U.S. troops from the peninsula.
But according to an official on Thursday,... the Special Measurement Agreement on the sharing of the financial burden of the U.S. troop presence is due to run through 2018,... and for such an agreement to be cancelled, it needs to be approved by both sides.
In what appeared to be an attempt to alleviate some of South Korea's concerns... one of Trump's foreign policy advisers,... Pete Hoekstra,... said Trump believes the South Korea-U.S. friendship is, and will remain, important, as the two sides enjoy strong national security and economic ties.
He said Trump will "build on that relationship to grow our economies to the benefit of both countries"... and coordinate on national security issues to handle regional threats.

Outspoken Rodrigo Duterte made the vulgar remark while saying it would be "rude" for Obama to raise the human rights issue
Barack Obama has cancelled what would have been his first meeting with the President of the Philippines after the leader branded him a "son of a whore".
Outspoken Rodrigo Duterte made the vulgar remark to reporters a day ahead of the planned meeting in Laos, where South Asian leaders are meeting for annual summits.
Obama learned of the insult as he emerged from the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China.
He said he had told his aides to speak with Philippine officials "to find out is this, in fact, a time where we can have some constructive, productive conversations," leaving little doubt that the meeting would proceed as planned.
"I always want to make sure that if I'm having a meeting, that it's actually productive and we're getting something done," Obama said.
Instead, Obama now plans to meet with South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Tuesday, a White House spokesman confirmed.
The response to North Korea's latest missile tests is expected to be on the agenda.
Obama arrived in Vientiane just before midnight on Monday, for the first visit by a sitting US president to Laos, where he wants to begin to address the legacy of US bombing during the Vietnam War.
He was set to give an address on the importance he has placed on Southeast Asia in his foreign and economic policy during his two terms in office, which will end on January 20, setting the stage for three days of meetings with regional leaders.
The White House had said Obama did not plan to pull any punches on his concerns about human rights abuses in the Philippines, its treaty ally, when meeting Duterte.
Duterte, a plain-spoken populist known for his colourful remarks and his campaign against illegal drugs in which thousands of people have died won the presidency in May.
He promised to suppress crime and wipe out drugs and drug dealers, and a wave of extrajudicial killings has followed.
Duterte said it would be "rude" for Obama to raise the human rights issue, and told reporters such a conversation would prompt him to curse at Obama, using a Filipino phrase for "son of a whore."
"Plenty will be killed until the last pusher is out of the streets. Until the (last) drug manufacturer is killed we will continue," he said.
It's not the first time Duterte has cursed at a world leader. He called Pope Francis a "son of a whore" in May, and called US Ambassador Philip Goldberg a "gay son of a whore."
