It's D-Day for the squatters in the East West Link houses in Collingwood.

Squatters initially moved into the Bendigo Street homes, which were acquired for the dumped east west link, in March.

They have refused the hand the properties over to the Salvation Army for social housing in protest for the lack of public housing available in Victoria.

Ross and John spoke with 3AW's Pat Mitchell who had coffee with one of the squatters.

Pat says the gas is still working and the electricity, "It's inner city living, it's not a dump".

The home would have been renovated in the last 10 years.

Squatter Joel Bynan tells Pat police will have to force them out and he'll be taking his case to the supreme court this morning.
