RUMOUR FILE: The company that supplies Australia with crucial air support during the bushfire season has filed for bankruptcy in the US.

Erikson Incorporated has a contract to provide Australia with six aircraft, including two that are stationed in Victoria.

The company's financial woes come at the beginning of Australia's bushfire season, with more than 60 bushfires devastating parts of New South Wales at the weekend.

But Victoria's Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley says while there's long term uncertainty, the international fleet of helicopters will be here in time for summer.
