This seal was spotted at Dromana.
Beachgoers are being warned to keep their distance from seals who make their way ashore for a much needed rest after the breeding season.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning said the animals may look a little worse for wear, but shouldn't be approached under any circumstances because it could cause the animals further distress.
Many have already been spotted in Port Phillip Bay.
DEPL's Suriya Vij urged people, and dogs, to keep clear.
She warned they do bite and it's not unusual to see them on the shore in populated areas.
"It's fairly common, and they do it all along our coastline," she said.
She said swimming, feeding, breeding tired them out and they came ashore to rest.
