The attackers then jumped off the tram at the intersection of Russell and Bourke streets and ran along Bourke Street, but not before grabbing the victim's phone that had her debit card, driver's licence and cash in the cover.

They used her card to buy goods at several locations in the CBD.

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and have released images of the offenders.

The female offender is described as Caucasian with a solid build and light brown/blonde hair in a bun.

Both male offenders appeared Caucasian, aged in their mid to late 20s.

Transit Detective Sergeant Geoff Beams said such behaviour blights Melbourne's reputation.

"It's unacceptable. People going about their lawful, daily business shouldn't be harassed and for people visiting from interstate like this, it's not the sort of reputation we want Melbourne to achieve," Detective Sergeant Beams said.

Anyone who witnessed the crime, recognises the offenders or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report to crimestoppersvic.com.au.
