An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
Jinnah International Airport (Urdu: جناح بین الاقوامی ہوائی اڈا) (IATA: KHI, ICAO: OPKC) is Pakistan's largest international and domestic airport. Located in Karachi, the largest city and capital of the Sindh province, it is named after Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
The airport provides a hub for the flag carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Air Indus, Shaheen Air, airblue and many other private airlines. The airport is equipped with aircraft engineering and overhauling facilities including the Ispahani Hangar for wide-body aircraft. In 2013, over 16,065,465 passengers used Jinnah International Airport (daily more than 44,000 passengers) and 113,345 aircraft movements were registered. Concourse East is currently used by Oneworld, Star Alliance and SkyTeam members and non-affiliated airlines.
J. R. D. Tata, the father of civil aviation in the British Raj made the South Asia's maiden voyage from Juhu Aerodrome in Bombay to Drigh Road airstrip (now Jinnah International Airport), Karachi, via Ahmedabad, on 15 October 1932 carrying mail in a Puss Moth aircraft.
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for flights to take off and land. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may have fixed base operator services, airport aprons, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services.
An airport with a helipad for rotorcraft but no runway is called a heliport. An airport for use by seaplanes and amphibious aircraft is called a seaplane base. Such a base typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and immigration.
In warfare, airports can become the focus of intense fighting, for example the Battle of Tripoli Airport or the Battle for Donetsk Airport, both taking place in 2014. An airport primarily for military use is called an airbase or air station.
International mostly means something (a company, language, or organization) involving more than a single country. The term international as a word means involvement of, interaction between or encompassing more than one nation, or generally beyond national boundaries. For example, international law, which is applied by more than one country and usually everywhere on Earth, and international language which is a language spoken by residents of more than one country.
The term international was coined by the utilitarian philosopher Jeremy Bentham in his Introduction to Principles of Morals and Legislation, which was printed for publication in 1780 and published in 1789. Bentham wrote: "The word international, it must be acknowledged, is a new one; though, it is hoped, sufficiently analogous and intelligible. It is calculated to express, in a more significant way, the branch of law which goes commonly under the name of the law of nations. The word was adopted in French in 1801.Thomas Erskine Holland noted in his article on Bentham in the 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica that "Many of Bentham's phrases, such as 'international,' 'utilitarian,' 'codification,' are valuable additions to our language; but the majority of them, especially those of Greek derivation, have taken no root in it."
Karachi (Urdu: کراچی / ALA-LC: Karācī IPA: [kəˈrɑːˌtʃi]) is the largest city of Pakistan and the capital of the province of Sindh as well as one of the largest and most populous metropolitan cities in the world. It is also the main seaport and financial center of the country. Karachi metro has an estimated population of over 23.5 million people as of 2013, and area of approximately 3,527 km2 (1,362 sq mi), resulting in a density of more than 6,000 people per square kilometre (15,500 per square mile).
Karachi is the 7th largest urban agglomeration in the world, and the second largest in the Muslim world. Karachi is also ranked as a beta world city. It was the capital of Pakistan until Islamabad was constructed as a capital to spread development evenly across the country and to prevent it from being concentrated in Karachi. Karachi is the location of the Port of Karachi and Port Bin Qasim, two of the region's largest and busiest ports. After the independence of Pakistan, the city population increased dramatically when hundreds of thousands of Muslim Muhajirs from India and from other parts of South Asia came to settle in Karachi.

Inside view of Jinnah Terminal, Quad e Azam International Airport, Karachi, Pakistan.
I made this video at Karachi airport in April this year, on the way to my return flight for Lahore. Although camera work is not satisfactory, I have decided to share the video because it provides a view of Pakistan that does not often feature in reports by the international mainstream media, especially these days when the country is mostly in the headlines for its security situation. Surprisingly, there is nothing in the scenes at this major Pakistani airport to suggest that the country is in turmoil and its people are gripped by fear. Scenes inside the terminal building were videoed in domestic departures area. Entrance hall where security checks are carried out is shown only briefly but the check-in hall was filmed from as many different angles as possible. While in corridor linking...

We needed to see how the people greet and react when the leader whom they support returns to their hometown. This was nothing short of pure love and joy. The security was at bare minimum and no one was stopped from riding next to Imran Khan's car. Let alone hang on to it. P.S we were traveling at a speed of 120 km/h with 4 people out of one sun roof.

Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
Fly away
From the weight of the world
On the ground
I'm international
But I don't know where to go
Hopefully where summer days
Can melt these winter bones
I'm international
And you're orbiting my brain
I'm reduced to writing nothing
All over napkins on the plane
Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
Taking pictures of myself
In the mirror on wall
Trying hard not to make my space
The loneliest place of all
Early warning all across the sky
Clouds are rolling in on your light
Any change from here would be
The wisest change of all
Any place from here up here
Would be the finest place to fall
Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
I'm losing track of myself
On all the time zone lines
And if I daylight save
Do I jump ahead or fall behind?
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
And I'm fine 'cause I know
You know, I know
It's easy to see
Clouds were built for dreams
Because nothing up there
Is as easy as it seems
I step out
And try to walk around
As I fall, I look up
And wonder why it let me down
I'm international
That's twice the speed of sound
I just hope I take off from here
Before I hit the ground
If I could get to heaven
By an airplane in the sky
We would always be in love
And we would always love to fly
Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
Taking pictures of myself
In the mirror on wall
Trying hard not to make my space
The loneliest place of all
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
And I'm fine 'cause I know
You know, I know
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
You know, I know
