Pinch Point Overtake - Upper Brook Street (28/06/2014) - Manchester

Poor weather conditions mean we all need to take extra care when out on the road. However this idiotic driver decided to perform an overtake, at speed, at a very dangerous pinch point. Heavy rain, high speed and pinch point all make for dangerous cocktail. This driver is a douche.
General Note:
I'm very careful to stick to the rules of the road when cycling, driving or walking, and I only wish everyone did the same (aka, Highway Code). Everyone makes the occasional mistake (which I accept), but it's the people who do it deliberately and dangerously because they know they can get away with it that need to be tackled. I'm not responsible for other cyclists' behaviour (any more than I'm responsible for other pedestrians' behaviour when I walk). However, the objective of this channel (why I record) is to demonstrate that standards across the board need to be improved and for my own safety.
It is a shame I did not get this rider's number plate. To be honest I was lucky to get the forward view footage at all, as given the light rain the camera often shuts down - and even if it doesn't, the lens is often obscured by the smallest drop of water. It would have been good to have the details to report to Roadsafe, as clearly they could use some further training on how to ride safely in wet weather and some better understanding on road positioning particularly when approaching pinch-points.

The car PE67ZTY just had to pass even though there was no room for it in front of me, so they just sat too close to me and expected me to disappear. Then they pass me on a pinch point (I hate these little islands they are SO DANGROUS FOR CYCLIST). But they had to get in front!
The wagon is on a bit of road with pinch points and a blind bridge and this wagon again could not wait a few seconds and had to pass. So he crossed the solid white line and made me slow down so I would not get squeezed on the next pinch point (I can’t argue about this little island, but still don’t like it).

Pinch point (mathematics)
In geometry, a pinch point or cuspidal point is a type of singular point on an algebraic surface.
The equation for the surface near a pinch point may be put in the form

A pinch-point is the level of inventories of a commodity or product below which consumers of that commodity or product become concerned about security of supply. When inventories are below the pinch-point, small changes in the balance of supply and demand can cause large changes in the price of the commodity or product.
The term was suggested in 1988 by Walter Curlook (Executive Vice-President of Inco Ltd) and was first published by Raymond Goldie with Rob Maiman in 1990. In 2000 Raymond Goldie trademarked the term.

Scooter Rider On L Plates Wants To Overtake Through Pinch-Point
It is a shame I did not get this rider's number plate. To be honest I was lucky to get the forward view footage at all, as given the light rain the camera often shuts down - and even if it doesn't, the lens is often obscured by the smallest drop of water. It would have been good to have the details to report to Roadsafe, as clearly they could use some further training on how to ride safely in wet weather and some better understanding on road positioning particularly when approaching pinch-points.

2 Poor passes on way to club ride 2019-10-07 PE67ZTY & YJ10AUX
The car PE67ZTY just had to pass even though there was no room for it in front of me, so they just sat too close to me and expected me to disappear. Then they pass me on a pinch point (I hate these little islands they are SO DANGROUS FOR CYCLIST). But they had to get in front! The wagon is on a bit of road with pinch points and a blind bridge and this wagon again could not wait a few seconds and had to pass. So he crossed the solid white line and made me slow down so I would not get squeezed on the next pinch point (I can’t argue about this little island, but still don’t like it).

Rain is Painfull!!!! Especially at speed!!
So far in the day we had only had gentle showers at most. However, as I got to this part of the route, which is the fastest part, it chucked it down. You can hear me shout "GOD RAIN HURTS" and it really did. You can also hear it hitting the camera. Poor weather conditions mean we all need to take extra care when out on the road. However this idiotic driver decided to perform an overtake, at speed, at a very dangerous pinch point. Heavy rain, high speed and pinch point all make for dangerous cocktail. This driver is a douche.
General Note:
I'm very careful to stick to the rules of the road when cycling, driving or walking, and I only wish everyone did the same (aka, Highway Code). Everyone makes the occasional mistake (which I accept), but it's the people who do it deliberately and dangerously because they know they can get away with it that need to be tackled. I'm not responsible for other cyclists' behaviour (any more than I'm responsible for other pedestrians' behaviour when I walk). However, the objective of this channel (why I record) is to demonstrate that standards across the board need to be improved and for my own safety.

It is a shame I did not get this rider's number plate. To be honest I was lucky to get the forward view footage at all, as given the light rain the camera often shuts down - and even if it doesn't, the lens is often obscured by the smallest drop of water. It would have been good to have the details to report to Roadsafe, as clearly they could use some further training on how to ride safely in wet weather and some better understanding on road positioning particularly when approaching pinch-points.

Here at Fishful Thinker, we believe that certain key structural elements are always good places to fish, regardless of species. Inlets, outlets, boat ramps, and dam faces are key spots we always talk about. But, "pinch points" - a place where flowing water or even a large lake narrows down substantially for a short span - are equally as universal. In this clip we were pursuing redfish and snook by targeting pinch points in the river...it worked very well as usual.

The car PE67ZTY just had to pass even though there was no room for it in front of me, so they just sat too close to me and expected me to disappear. Then they pass me on a pinch point (I hate these little islands they are SO DANGROUS FOR CYCLIST). But they had to get in front!
The wagon is on a bit of road with pinch points and a blind bridge and this wagon again could not wait a few seconds and had to pass. So he crossed the solid white line and made me slow down so I would not get squeezed on the next pinch point (I can’t argue about this little island, but still don’t like it).

So far in the day we had only had gentle showers at most. However, as I got to this part of the route, which is the fastest part, it chucked it down. You can hear me shout "GOD RAIN HURTS" and it really did. You can also hear it hitting the camera.

****Newsflash!!!!*****Lingfield, Surrey, UK. The Thatched Cottage. Lorry-hit damage to Listed Building. Road flood-water damage to Listed Building. Home of 'Biggles' author, W.E. Johns, is being damaged by traffic. Council ignores damage to Listed Building for 11 years!! Developers ignore damage to Listed Building. The Thatched Cottage was always going to be 'in the way' should developers try to build on land opposite the cottage. Developers get permission for first pinch-point some way 'up the road'. Council and developers need another pinch-point so leave The Thatched Cottage off the plans. New traffic scheme endangers home of Biggles. Godstone Road traffic scheme endangers home of author W.E.Johns. New traffic scheme endangers 15th Century Listed Building. This video was used to show the damage being caused to The Thatched Cottage. It was shown to members of Surrey County Council, to Tandridge District Council, to the developers and to the Inspectorate; none address the fact that lorries hit the thatched roof. Rubber-stamped. They do not see that the cottage leans to one side following years of lorry-hits. They cannot see why the plaster is shaken off the timber frame of the building along its road-side. They do not want to see. They do not want to hear. Rubber-stamped. The developers obliged to have second pinch-point - did they not know that to start with? Now planned in a dangerous position and against police advice. The Thatched Cottage and its access drive 'on and off' the plans in many and varied 'revisions'. Currently driveway off the plans. All rubber-stamped.
