The following instructions were copied from mw:Extension:Title Blacklist.

The title blacklist is maintained as a system message MediaWiki:Titleblacklist.

This page consists of regular expressions, each on a separate line. For example:

Foo <autoconfirmed|noedit|errmsg=blacklisted-testpage> 
[Bb]ar #No one should create article about it

There is no need to use "^" at the beginning and "$" at the end; these are added automatically.

Each entry may also contain optional attributes, enclosed in <> and divided by |

  • autoconfirmed — only non-autoconfirmed users are unable to create/upload/move such pages
  • noedit — users are also unable to edit this article
  • casesensitive — don't ignore case when checking title for being blacklisted
  • errmsg — the name of the message that should be displayed instead of standard

When the action is blocked, one of the following messages is displayed together with the filter row (as $1): titleblacklist-forbidden-edit, titleblacklist-forbidden-move, titleblacklist-forbidden-new-account or titleblacklist-forbidden-upload. Generic filenames have their own custom error message, MediaWiki:Titleblacklist-custom-imagename.

There is also MediaWiki:Titlewhitelist and a global title blacklist.

Only administrators and template editors can override this list on all actions. Account creators can override this list on account creations only.

Blacklist name[edit]

We need to have the name Davide Anselmi protected in some format since there are attempts by various socks to get his article recreated. See this, this, and this for the rationale. I'd also recommend protecting against creation of Toward the Tower. It looks like they're used to getting around the title salts, so blacklisting these as titles would be helpful. Kean Rabuyo[edit]

Please consider adding .*[Kk]ean\s*[Rr]abuyo.* to the blacklist. Several socks of TV5Ozamiz are making attempts to recreate the article (possibly an autobiography) under various titles with parenthetical disambiguation; see [1], [2], and [3]. Sixth of March 07:05, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Jodense Valenciano[edit]

Requesting for the addition of .*jodense.*valenci[ae]no.* to the blacklist. Articles with such title keep on being recreated by socks of Dakotaparty. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dakotaparty. Sixth of March 09:03, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

More Unicode blocking?[edit]

Yesterday I deleted Whаt should be the оff раgе SEO асtіvіtіеѕ for nеwѕ wеbѕіtе tо improve kеуwоrdѕ, which in a move typical of web spam, uses Unicode characters in order to get around various filters. There are likely more of these characters nearby. (Lodging this here as a reminder to look at this later.) MER-C 05:33, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Blacklist addition request[edit]

IIRC, this is a target of SPAs, so whether it's paid or not, I don't know, but we've had SPIs and COINs related to the subject before. As far as content goes, IIRC, the first draft was moved into mainspace after being declined and was deleted, it was recreated as Alex Asiedu and deleted, it was recreated as Alexander Asiedu, deleted as recreation of deleted content, requested to be userfied/put back into draft by an editor who then approved it to make a POINT (or BATTLEGROUND), and was AfDed again. I see now that the draft has been recreated with the same material that was deemed unacceptable previously, and declined once again. MSJapan (talk) 18:32, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Killed in[edit]

Does anyone know why "killed in" is on the blacklist? I'm asking in response to this request on my talk page. I can't imagine that pattern being so harmful, but more than that I'm genuinely curious. Thanks, -- Tavix (talk) 19:24, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Blacklist ZUUZUZ please (Junior5a harassing followup)[edit]

So, the person behind the Junior5a outing is now apparently harassing Zzuuzz by mispelling his name as "ZUUZUZ" into article names. I'm assuming "Zzuzz" is already on the blacklist, but I could be wrong. This is the followup to the repeated Junior5a outing and harassing that made me get "Junior5a" on the title blacklist. Blacklist addition request for spam (Sept. 20, 2016)[edit]

I request to block the titles Jeux Star, Jeux star and, just to be sure, JEUX STAR. My request is related to a massive spam added by SOCINCWORLD, on 11 wikis (all pages deleted and user warned on major WP). He is mainly using some little WP (in terms of active users and articles) to create pages in which spam this company (see for example cr:ᐘᑧᔸᓮᓯ or tw:Jeux Star). All the details of his activity are located here (meta): it's a request for a goblal lock. Anyway, also the jeuxstar's website should be blacklisted (I dunno if this is the right page). IMHO, adding to the blacklist this pages and the webiste, this massive spam should end immediatly, avoiding further sockpuppets that will have no tools to spam again. Letter prime?[edit]

When trying to move Sää´mođđâz to Sääʹmođđâz, the following error is shown: "Sää´mođđâz" cannot be moved to "Sääʹmođđâz", because the title "Sääʹmođđâz" is on the title blacklist. If you feel that this move is valid, please consider requesting the move first.

Why is this title blacklisted?

See the use of the modifier letter prime ʹ instead of symbol acute accent ´ in the introduction line of the article. The substitution of the prime by acute accent comes from a problem with keyboard input since the acute accent is commonly on keyboard layouts while letter prime isn’t, but typographically the letter prime is correct in Skolt Sami. --Moyogo/ (talk) 09:05, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Filthy Frank[edit]

I was wondering if we could blacklist any title that has the name "Filthy Frank" in it or maybe any article that uses that specific phrase? The reason for this is that there has been a fairly continuous campaign to get Filthy Frank a Wikipedia article outside of Harlem Shake (meme). He originated the meme, but it went far beyond him and he's gone through multiple AfDs that all ended with the consensus to delete the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Filthy Frank and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/George Miller (entertainer). We probably can't blacklist George Miller since the name is relatively common, but we can at least prevent someone from trying to get around the article saltings to create a new article.

I'd especially appreciate if we could keep someone from putting the name in another article because there has been a lot of vandalism at Chef (film), from people trying to add two of his videos to the article despite clear indication that they are not notable enough to be added. I've semi-protected the page, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone is working at getting autoconfirmed so they can re-add them, given that attempts to add him to Wikipedia in general have apparently been going on since 2014.   • I'm honestly tempted to start blocking people whose only edits are to try to recreate this article. This is pretty ridiculous.   • I blocked the guy who made that article. Given that he tried going around the salted titles and that the fandom seems to be fairly aware of the whole Wikipedia stuff, it's unlikely that he didn't know that doing that would be a bad idea and I'd wager that anyone else that doesn't reserve their FF edits to AfC would likely be equally aware.   • Thanks for the ping, but I don't think I really have anything to add here. I came across the first(?) AfD (this), then when it was redirected I saw someone restore his name to List of YouTubers via a different title, George Miller (entertainer). CSD declined so sent it back to AfD. Not familiar with other creations, though I did remove incoming links. I'm a little concerned about blacklisting (and don't know the range of technical options for blacklisting anything beyond specific article titles and external links), since it makes sense to mention him at the Harlem Shake article, and he's mentioned in the biographies of some other youtubers that are notable. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 13:32, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Examples of filenames that match are "File:Foo .jpg", "File:Foo,.png", "File:Foo.jpeg.svg", "File:Foo,pdf.gif", "File:Foo,tif .tiff", "File:Foo,jpg,.jpg". Extensions come from Special:Upload. I estimate about 12–15 uploads per month with this issue. Some instances: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 The entries would not have any effect on existing titles (folks could edit re-upload to these without a problem). I've tested and verified that the regexes work as expected at the testwiki.

Blacklist a number?[edit]

I was wondering if someone could blacklist this phone number: 8890388811. There's been somewhat of a rash of articles created with this number in an attempt to promote a psychic hotline. The person in question was originally blocked under one account, but came back under a new username. All in all they've created 8890388811 love problem solution astrologer canada, Solve problem @8890388811 love problem solution astrologer UK, Solve problem @8890388811 love problem solution astrologer pune, Solve problem @8890388811 love problem solution astrologer gujarat, Solve problem @8890388811 love problem solution astrologer canada, and Solve problem @8890388811 love problem solution astrologer kuwait. I haven't bothered salting any of them or checking to see if they're salted, since any salting would just likely result in them going for a new word combination and it'd likely be easier to just block anything that used this number. Is there really a need for any page title to have a number with ten or more digits in it, obfuscated or not? This would catch essentially all phone numbers available to spammers. I can't see why any username should need such a long digit string in it, either. -- The Anome (talk) 12:45, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
@The Anome: As far as I know, there are no current such titles. I'd be inclined to add a autoconfirmed entry to disallow titles with long digit strings, yes. I wonder if an edit filter would also work but we'd need to know if there is a legit reason to add such a digit in particular namespaces.   • That filter can debofuscate strings like "l--8__o__o". As for blocking strings of 10 digits: I don't know -- it's not something I can easily search for.   • Yep, rather dangerous in that form. Could be tweaked of course to lazy up the inter-character wildcard, and if applied to <autoconfirmed> for creation, should limit the disruption. The more open the regex becomes to catch the evil, the more good will get tied up, unfortunately. This may not be the best approach, I was just thinking out loud in response to the above questions. ([\doi!]([ -_]{0,3})){7,10} should match: A digit or lookalike followed by between zero and 3 of space, hyphen, or underscore (to catch "1 - 2 _ 3...), repeated between 7 and 10 times. That returns "only" 909 existing titles (only a small number are in mainspace and some of which are not likely redirect titles, such as Gooooooooogle, so again, setting <autoconfirmed> should minimize legit disruption. Davide Anselmi[edit]

I would like to have the name Davide Anselmi and Anselmi Davide added to the title/word blacklist. Long story short, there's some sockpuppetry surrounding this and the guy's basic MO is to try to create pages that claim some pretty easily disproven stuff. The guy claims to have had Stephen Sondheim (who is known for his musical career) as a cinematographer on a film that gained zero coverage. Lately he's been trying to attach himself to various films, like claiming that he worked on the sound for the Maze Runner series, which again, didn't happen. The socks have been mildly creative with the various names, which have run the range from Davide Anselmi, Anselmi Davide, Davide Anselmi (composer), Davide Anselmi (composer), and Anselmi Davide (Drummer). Hopefully making it so he can't create an article will help deter him. If there's a way to prevent him from putting his name on Wikipedia at all, that might be good as well.
