Following the classic Marvel mythology, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together with other mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known.

The climax is the biggest letdown, a giant hash of crosscutting and unremarkable (in an era in which we've seen everything) CGI.

As X-Men films go, this one gets the job done and is certainly better than Last Stand or Wolverine. But there are still just too darn many X-Men.

Looks and feels like a very cheesy Cold War-era B movie...

It uses the themes of the previous movies to build an intelligent, fast-paced, and highly entertaining prequel.

This blazing "pre-boot" breathes new life into the sagging franchise

New decade; same ol' same ol'.

Lacking a single memorable joke or striking image, First Class is as perfunctory and passionless as would-be franchise resurrections get.

Not the best. As a whole, this is a good film (average). The original trilogy was certainly better (every bit of it) but this is by no means a bad flick. As a comics fan I like what they are doing in bringing the two classes together in the "Days of Future Past" storyline but this film as a standalone is nothing more than average (but Mcavoy and Fassbender are splendid together). Worth a watch to see their chemistry- rivals that of their predecessors.
Best of the X-Men movies I have not read the comics, but a problem for many seems to be that it doesn't follow the comics. But I enjoy the movie thoroughly, it is the only one I can watch repeatedly without being bored. This movie isn't filled with unnecessary, over-the-top action like it's predecessors. The CGI isn't perfect but hardly makes the movie bad.
Now we talking Think god this film came out because I was about to go nuts since I hear people saying x3 was bad and I saw x men origins wolverine for my self and that movie was bad so if it wasn't for this movie the x men trilogy would have been destroyed the only good movies that would be in the trilgy was xmen and x2 now this is a good film and it has something to do with days of future past and I like that it tells why are prof.x and magneto are enemies and the CGI is awsome but it was 2011 so CGI was awesome in 2011
Honestly, I refused to watch any of the X-men movies before this. The only characters I liked from what I saw of the old ones were Professor X and Magneto. Hated the old ones, refused to watch a full one. This movie changed everything. I loved it, adored it! The actors made me actually like the characters. I was converted by this movie alone! It was well done with bits of fun to keep it light.
One of my faves! ...and the one right after was even BETTER! ...or maybe I just love seeing me some JACKMAN booty, hahahah! No, no. Huge fan of the COMICS & despite all the other negative ratings, only a true fan will enjoy the MOVIE & refrain from HIGH HOLLYWOOD EXPECTATIONS! I enjoy ALL of the sequels & prequels! Won't stop me from going to watch during premiere nights! ;) Keep it coming!!!
Good origin story! Wow. This movie was incredible! At first it looked as if this would be yet another X-Men movie that I would not be able to comprehend, but as the story went on those annoying sub-plots were tied together with the actual story. The origin story of Xavier and Magneto actually works, and the action scenes are amazing if I do say so myself. So, is there anything I didn't like about the film? Well, other than there being not a whole lot of main X-Men in the film save for Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Beast(whom I liked better in The Last Stand), no, not really. This is probably one of the best X-Men that could possibly be made, and I seriously recommend it to any true Marvel fan out there, especially ones interested in origin stories.
Meh. An unnecessary Pre?boot that tries to launch a few more careers in hollywood. This movie is capably shot and produced.... the story is just uninteresting at best and silly/stupid at worst. Criminally mis-cast Emma Frost and ridiculous villain in Kevin Bacon totally fails at creating the tension or investment required to want to suspend disbelief. Some of the powers are cool though other than Xavier and Magneto, pretty much are all just cannon fodder.
Marvelous. Wonderfully directed and filmed, X-Men First Class provides a beautiful picture of the start of the beloved franchise. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender shine with a chemistry rivaling that of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan. Witty and daring in its own respects, the movie is a well-written prequel that has become my personal favorite among the X-Men movie adaptations.
Fun, Classy & Full of Pathos Like the tortured childhood path & rise of Darth Vader, this origin X-men story focuses on the downfall - or ethical choice, take your pick - of one of Marvel's greatest villains - Magneto. Everything else, from the hilarious Wolverine cameo, to the snappy 60's music video montage of the novices training to discover their full potential, makes this entry one of the most fun, yet still seriously dramatic explorations of the X-Men mythos.
Might as Well Have Watched a Godzilla Movie When I first tried to watch this a couple of years ago, I had to stop about 3/4 of the way through because I could no longer stand watching a mess idiot kids do stupid things during the 60s. I kept seeing reviews saying this was one of the better X-Men movies. So, I just tried to watch it again. Nope. Just as bad as I remember. Actually, it's worse. The very driver of the movie (the Cuban Missile Crisis stuff) is ridiculous. It would require the main bad guys to hench so blindly that they'd believe the pile of obviously unsupported horse-feathers their boss was feeding them to the point of mass (self) extinction. And, I'm not even going to talk about the tremendous issues with the technology available vs technology used. With more adults in the movie and with less of a 60s feel, maybe this would have been OK. But, not as it is.
Garbage This is x-men in name only. More character, continuity and story butchering. What stan lee and Chris ClareMonte write was good enough to make people want to these characters on the screen but not good enough to actually stick to for a story. Total garbage
X-tacular Most people will not know most of these characters so I recommend the X-Men essentials 1-11. If you know who the characters are and what they are talking about then way to do your reading. I highly recommend this. It has everything: SciFi!Action and Adventure! A little bit of humor! War! And finally romance. I only have two words to describe what I felt at the end of this X-Tacular movie. LOVED IT!!!!!!
My favorite x-men movie besides days of future past Days of future past is better than this, but this movie is awesome it goes really deep behind Magneto's and Professor X's origins.
excellent movie but....... the entire thing was a cinematic masterpiece. However, if you watch the first movie in the original trilogy, Magneto was able to block Xavier's telepathic abilites while he was using cerebro because Magneto and Xavier built cerebro together. That was not the case in this movie, where Hank designed and built the entire thing himself. CHECK YOUR FACTS PEOPLE!!!!
