In the Pacific Northwest, a small island may hold the clue to unraveling the mystery of the legendary Sasquatch. Vancouver Island is a densely forested land mass located about 70 miles northwest of Seattle, Washington. The island is separated from Canada's mainland by water and is a popular destination for hikers, hunters and possibly something frightening and mysterious. Natives told tales to their children of an ape-like beast to be feared that would steal them should they venture into the forest. More than just stories of a bogeyman, recent witnesses tell equally terrifying stories of a monster that attacks as they sleep and is seen devouring fish on the coastline. Now our expedition team follows up these reports, launches their own hunt and finds that recent scientific discoveries of swimming apes could lead them to their most astounding discovery yet.

Hi guys, in this episode adrenaline was pumped through my body when I heard a loud crackling noise at my camp and I was afraid it was a bear. There is a high population of black bears on Vancouver Island and therefore I set up 2 different camps. This is day #2 on Vancouver Island.
(This video has been shot in June 2016 on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. No firebans have existed in that period of time.)

Vancouver Island
Vancouver Island, located in British Columbia, Canada, is the largest Pacific island east of New Zealand. While the city of Vancouver stands on the North American mainland, Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, is located on the island.
The island was first explored by Europeans when British and Spanish expeditions arrived in the late 18th century. It was originally named Quadra's and Vancouver's Island in commemoration of the friendly negotiations held by Spanish commander of the Nootka Sound settlement, Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, and by British naval captain George Vancouver in Nootka Sound in 1792, to find a solution to the Nootka Crisis. Quadra's name was eventually dropped and it has since been known solely as Vancouver Island. It is one of several North American locations named after George Vancouver, the British Royal Navy officer who explored the Pacific Northwest coast of North America between 1791 and 1794.
Along with most of the southern Gulf Islands, plus various minor islands offshore from its southern end, the southern part of Vancouver Island is the only part of British Columbia (and of Western Canada) that lies south of the 49th Parallel. The area has one of the warmest climates in Canada and since the mid-1990s has been mild enough in a few areas to grow subtropical Mediterranean crops such as olives and lemons.

The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country, the second largest city on the United States–Canada border, and the most populous in Western Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents have a first language other than English. Vancouver is classed as a Beta global city. The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city with over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco, and Mexico City.

Hi guys, in this episode adrenaline was pumped through my body when I heard a loud crackling noise at my camp and I was afraid it was a bear. There is a high population of black bears on Vancouver Island and therefore I set up 2 different camps. This is day #2 on Vancouver Island.
(This video has been shot in June 2016 on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. No firebans have existed in that period of time.)

Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbor district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbor Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.

Extreme trucking on Vancouver Island
This is the most extreme, heavy, off-road trucking in the world.... Trucks that are 16 feet wide, can carry loads of huge old growth timber that weigh 130 tons, gross weight of truck and load can be as much as 180 tons. This is done on roads that are very steep "as much as 20% down grades", barely as wide as the truck with as many as twelve switchbacks that cling to the sides of the mountain for thousands of feet, with drop offs of hundreds and sometimes thousands of feet at nearly every turn. Narrow bridges, soft spots, muddy slippery conditions, extreme fog, and in most cases two trucks cannot pass each other.. they must use call points on the radio to inform all the other divers of locations... Fog, rain, ice, etc all add to the conditions that make this the most demanding, and unforgi...

Retire Trip - Victoria & Butchart Gardens, Vancouver Island
On July 6, 2013 we left Anacortes, Washington to Vancouver Island taking the Ferry to Sidney, including Serena. It was a very interesting experience seeing how these ferries are packed with vehicles and people. The ferry ride is very smooth because of such a large boat and the route being pretty calm. The passenger areas are spacious and one can avoid the cold and still have a beautiful view. Ferries have no front and no back; both ends look identical and it can move in either direction and surprisingly fast. I started the navigation to the Fort Victoria RV park where we stayed while about a half mile from the shore when they announced to get in the vehicles; the TomTom informed me that part of the route would need a ferry and showed us moving along the water towards land. These guys make ice road truckers look like Sunday drive in the country. This video will give you just a little idea of what its like to drive two hours into the high timber, meeting other giant trucks all the way, to bring 120 tons of logs off a mountain and haul it to a dryland sort at an inlet on the Pacific Ocean. Awsome is the only way to describe the feeling to be in this huge truck in these conditions. Thanks to Steve and the mighty "H-17" 1975 Hayes HDX off road log truck.

This video will give you just a little idea of what its like to drive two hours into the high timber, meeting other giant trucks all the way, to bring 120 tons of logs off a mountain and haul it to a dryland sort at an inlet on the Pacific Ocean. On July 6, 2013 we left Anacortes, Washington to Vancouver Island taking the Ferry to Sidney, including Serena. It was a very interesting experience seeing how these ferries are packed with vehicles and people. The ferry ride is very smooth because of such a large boat and the route being pretty calm. The passenger areas are spacious and one can avoid the cold and still have a beautiful view. Ferries have no front and no back; both ends look identical and it can move in either direction and surprisingly fast. I started the navigation to the Fort Victoria RV park where we stayed while about a half mile from the shore when they announced to get in the vehicles; the TomTom informed me that part of the route would need a ferry and showed us moving along the water towards land. I was surprised the GPS worked in the belly of that ferry.
Fort Victoria RV park is clean and adequate. Public transportation is nearby to get to the attractions. This is a busy area and hilly, so not much biking here. We took the bus to downtown Victoria and had a great time exploring it. Lots of tourist traps, but the waterfront is beautiful and the British Columbia Museum is great. We watched an IMAX and saw a couple of exhibits. One covered the early 1900's expedition to be first at the South Pole which turned into a competition between Norway and Britain. Norway won and the British expedition died on the way back freezing in bad weather. The second exhibition was on early native people of the area. We had excellent dinch at the Spaghetti Factory.
On Tuesday, we went to Butchart Gardens and Butterfly Gardens, in that order. Butchart Gardens are so incredibly beautiful, that the Butterfly Gardens looked worse than they are; in addition, we had already seen a butterfly garden near Niagara Falls that was much better. The Butchart family still owns and runs this famous garden, a must to see when visiting this area. We had dinch at the famous Tea Restaurant in Butchart Gardens which was exquisite.We stayed at Oceanside RV Park on Tuesday night which is near the water and closer to Sidney for the Ferry ride on Wednesday.
