With four picks in the first two rounds the Power have bought themselves some options and flexibility. It could be up to them to bid for GWS Academy youngster Harry Perryman, who is too good a player to get past their first pick. They're one of a few who could contemplate bidding for Gold Coast's Brad Scheer and Collingwood's Callum Brown and Josh Daicos later on, as well. Given the Giants will need to use pick 15 to secure Will Setterfield there will be just one selection – belonging to Brisbane –between Port's first and second picks. Jy Simpkin is one player they have been linked to and would make some sense given his high skill level; they need to get some good kicks in. Alex Witherden is another contender, and a player the Lions may look at too, so if Port want him they might need to go for him first. Could Jordan Gallucci or Daniel Venables reach them? Oliver Florent has some skill and versatility, and what about Will Brodie? It seems improbable he will be left on the shelf for that long, but who knows? Port's forward line needs more numbers and they may get a look at Will Hayward, an energetic lead-up player. The hard-running Josh Battle could be considered and it looks like they will get a call on key forward Todd Marshall, who started the season as a top-five prospect and tired, but can do some special things. That they are picking twice, and come back again at the start of the 30s when plenty of decent midfielders will still be around, might make it a worthwhile move.

RICHMOND

RUCKS: Shaun Hampson, Toby Nankervis, Ivan Maric, Ivan Soldo (rookie).
More midfielders might be on the menu for Richmond, though they are light on for tall marking forwards, which could mean they look at someone like Josh Battle, Patrick Kerr or Elliot Himmelberg with their first pick. The first might not be there for them but at least one of the other two should be, if not both. Himmelberg is the more athletic option, but Kerr is a confident, aggressive type who wants the ball in his hands and loves the responsibility of kicking goals. If they look instead for onballers, Sam Powell-Pepper would be a good fit. He has power, determination and a real bit of burst. Joe Atley, Willem Drew, Josh Begley and Jack Graham could bring in some strength and so could Daniel Venables, who may slide a bit due to his foot injuries but would be a bit of a bargain should he make it through. One other area Richmond might look at is their half-back line. Vlastuin is at a point where he should be part of the centre square mix, and while everyone hopes Chris Yarran can find his way back to his best form there are no guarantees he will be able to do what they got him for. Do they go after a bit more pace, or someone who can carry the ball out of the backline and set up play? Sam Walker, Josh Rotham, Bailey Morrish, Mitch Hinge and Tom Williamson have some of those qualities and could all be looked at. Jarrod Berry could be long gone, but is difficult to place and another who may get through.

ST KILDA
In: Nathan Brown, Jason Holmes (rookie upgrade), Jack Steele, Koby Stevens.
Out: Tom Curren, Luke Delaney, Sam Fisher, Tom Lee, Brodie Murdoch, Brenton Payne, Josh Saunders, Cameron Shenton, Eli Templeton.
Draft picks: 23, 36, 60.
TALL FORWARDS: Nick Riewoldt, Josh Bruce, Paddy McCartin, Tim Membrey.
TALL DEFENDERS: Jake Carlisle, Nathan Brown, Hugh Goddard, Nick Coughlan, Darragh Joyce (rookie)
SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Jack Billings, Maverick Weller, Jack Lonie, Jack Sinclair, Jade Gresham, Darren Minchington.
SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Dylan Roberton, Sean Dempster, Jarryn Geary, Shane Savage, Sam Gilbert, Jimmy Webster, Nathan Wright, Brandon White, Bailey Rice, Ray Connellan (rookie)
MIDFIELDERS: Jack Steven, David Armitage, Leigh Montagna, Seb Ross, Jack Newnes, Luke Dunstan, Blake Acres, Daniel McKenzie, Koby Stevens, Jack Steele, Nathan Freeman, Nick O'Kearney (rookie).
RUCKS: Tom Hickey, Billy Longer, Jason Holmes, Lewis Pierce.
The St Kilda rebuild is a few years in, and they have pretty good coverage in most parts of the ground now. The addition of Carlisle, after a 12-month wait, will be significant. Nathan Brown will add depth and Hugh Goddard is an up-and-comer making his way back from a bad injury. But there is room for them to add another developing key back. One with a bit of pace off the mark would be handy, and they're one of a few clubs who could look at the versatile Elliot Himmelberg or even Mitch McCarthy at a later pick. Jack Maibaum isn't obviously athletic but keeps up, has beaten some good forwards this year and competes no matter what. Jarrod Berry could be there, too. While the Saints have some classy small and mid-sized forwards who will do some midfield time – Jade Gresham has already started – they have spent more than a year trying to get Nathan Freeman up and going and could still do with more pace. Sam Powell-Pepper could be one they look at and, like Maibaum, is a competitor who gives his all. So is Daniel Venables, who could also rotate between the forward and midfield lines. His injuries might see him slip to a point where he is too good to pass up. Could Oliver Florent sneak through? The Saints could also keep planning for life after Nick Riewoldt and look at a player such as Josh Battle, whose has both the ability and the willingness to cover ground and work opponents over. He could fit into a forward line featuring Paddy McCartin, Josh Bruce and Tim Membrey. So could Todd Marshall - possibly the better fit - on the off chance he makes it into the 20s.

SYDNEY
In: Jordan Foote, Harry Marsh, Nick Newman, Tom Papley (rookie upgrades)
Out: Tom Mitchell, Abe Davis, Tom Derickx, Kyle Galloway, Jack Hiscox, Ben McGlynn, Toby Nankervis, Ted Richards, Xavier Richards
Draft picks: 9, 19, 46, 49, 85, 93.
TALL FORWARDS: Lance Franklin, Sam Reid.
TALL DEFENDERS: Heath Grundy, Aliir Aliir, Jeremy Laidler, Michael Talia, Alex Johnson, Lewis Melican (rookie).
SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Gary Rohan, George Hewett, Dean Towers, Jordan Dawson, Brandon Jack.

MIDFIELDERS: Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery, Luke Parker, Isaac Heeney, Kieren Jack, Harry Cunningham, Daniel Robinson, Jordan Foote, , Tyrone Leonardis, Sam Murray.
RUCKS: Kurt Tippett, Callum Sinclair, Sam Naismith.
It seems a strange thing to say about a side that just played off for the premiership, but Sydney were beaten for outside run by both GWS and the Western Bulldogs and lost both finals. Depending on who is available, speed, skill and polish should be a priority, although Leonardis and Dawson are two good kicks making their way. The one complication could be Will Brodie and his expected availability at pick 9. He would effectively take Tom Mitchell's spot, though he isn't necessarily what they need. The Swans' trade up to pick 9 got them inside West Coast and Adelaide as well as North Melbourne, the latter of whom are looking for players with similar attributes. Given Heeney and Mills are expected to start spending more time in the midfield, minimising the impact of Mitchell's departure, one other thing the club could look to do is find replacements for them on the half-forward and half-back lines. Jy Simpkin and Oliver Florent are two who should be around the mark; both hit the ball hard, create ways to goal and look like they will be able to play a part in both the forward line and midfield over time. They fit both bills. Will Hayward could be another possibility, and despite the emergence this year of Aliir Aliir Sydney could also look at bringing in another developing tall defender. It's difficult to see them doing that with their first pick unless Griffin Logue, who Gold Coast and Fremantle both have an interest in, makes it past those clubs to them.

WEST COAST

Draft picks: 12, 34, 54, 89.
TALL FORWARDS: Josh Kennedy, Jack Darling, Tom Lamb, Matthew Allen.
TALL DEFENDERS: Jeremy McGovern, Tom Barrass, Eric Mackenzie, Will Schofield.
SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Mark LeCras, Jamie Cripps, Josh Hill, Malcolm Karpany, Simon Tunbridge (rookie).
SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Shannon Hurn, Sharrod Wellingham, Brad Sheppard, Sam Butler, Jackson Nelson, Paddy Brophy (rookie).
MIDFIELDERS: Andrew Gaff, Luke Shuey, Sam Mitchell, Matt Priddis, Chris Masten, Elliot Yeo, Dom Sheed, Lewis Jetta, Jack Redden, Liam Duggan, Mark Hutchings, Tom Cole, Luke Partington, Kurt Mutimer, Jordan Snadden (rookie).
RUCKS: Nic Naitanui, Scott Lycett, Nathan Vardy, Jonathan Giles.
West Coast have found themselves in this position for a few years, sitting just outside the top 10 waiting to see who slips through. The player they may have to think hard about this year is Will Brodie, who looks like making it through the first 10. Do they need to consider life after Priddis and recruit Sam Mitchell? Have they already done that, with Liam Duggan and Dom Sheed? Will Will Brodie be a long way ahead of the next best player on their list and too good to leave sitting there? It will be an interesting call. The Eagles have been linked to defender Griffin Logue, but would need him to get past a few clubs to reach them. There's also been some talk about Josh Rotham, an adventurous dasher who has a slight chance of making it to their second pick but could go just before it. Jarrod Berry would be a solid choice and is the sort of mid-sized marking back they could do with, while the pace of Isaac Cumming could open up space on Subiaco Oval. Jy Simpkin, Oliver Florent and Jordan Gallucci are others who could fit in well. And then there is Will Hayward, an energetic and creative lead-up forward who could replace Mark Le Cras down the track. The Eagles have nominated Jake Waterman, another forward and the brother of recently delisted midfielder Alec, as a father-son nominee. It's hard to see a bid coming for him until after their second pick, if not their third.

The Bulldogs will have some decent options as their first choice and could get a look at Todd Marshall, who started the year as the standout key forward but tired as the year went by and seems to be making his way down the order. His form early was highly athletic and extremely promising, so he'd be well worth a look. The foot skills and versatility of Alex Witherden could appeal, and Jordan Gallucci has the sort of versatility the Dogs have valued in recent seasons. It seems highly unlikely Tim English will get to them but stranger things have happened with ruck prospects in strong drafts. The Dogs are one of only a couple of clubs to have gone to Halls Creek, the home of Cedric Cox, who moved to Camperdown this year and was brought into the North Ballarat Rebels side mid-year. His pace off half-back, skills on both sides and overall enthusiasm mean he could be the one for their first pick; he might be snapped up before they choose again. It will be interesting to see whether the Dogs are spooked by Marcus Adams' mini-effort to get back to Perth during the trade period, having just lost Joel Hamling to Fremantle. If they have some concerns he might not sign a new contract, they could use a later pick to bring another tall back in even though they drafted Kieran Collins this time last year. Harrison Macreadie and Jack Maibaum are two who could be looked at; Macreadie is from the GWS Academy, like Kobe Mutch, an onballer they could think about. The Bulldogs have no desperate need for anything; they like multi-position players who know how to tackle and apply pressure and can be expected to look for those things again.
