Canberra bakers - this time next year, your creation could be in a cookbook.

Locals showed off their cake skills back in May at the PANDSI Cake-off and the event will be back in 2017 - but with a different tilt.

This year was all about recreating every cake from the iconic Australian Women's Weekly Children's Birthday Cake Cookbook. The event raised $20,000 for PANDSI, a support group for Canberra families suffering from post- and ante-natal maternal depression.

Next year, bakers need to look a little closer to home for inspiration, and create a Canberra-themed cake.

The cakes will go on display on May 13, 2017 - the day before Mother's Day - and attendees will vote on their favourite cakes which will then be featured in the PANDSI Canberra Cake Off Cookbook, due for release in November 2017.

Locals have already started making creations for practice and so far there have been cake bus shelters, Parliament House, hot air balloons, swooping magpies and Mooseheads cupcakes.
