7 animals who have a harder time conceiving than you
Bek Day
Take a look at seven animals that will make you thank your lucky stars you were born human.
Flatworms are hermaphroditic, which means that either one can become a mother or father. They also realise something that a lot of human mums have discovered – that often, in childbirth and child-rearing, mums get a bum deal. Because of this, a pair of mating flatworms battle it out to get the cushy dad job – and they fight with their penises for the right. Their penises are shaped like two-headed daggers, and fertilisation occurs when it manages to pierce the skin of the mate – so it is literally a race to the finish line to see who gets the – er- pointy end of the deal. Makes arguing over who’s going to get up to a crying baby in the middle of the night seem rather tame, doesn’t it?
