How to Make French Press Coffee

xghkhjlA French press, otherwise called a press pot is a straightforward coffee preparing gadget invented and patented by Italian inventor Attilio Calimani in 1929. In Italy the French press contraption is called the ‘caffettiera a stantuffo’. In other countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa the French press is called the coffee plunger, and French press as plunger espresso. Regular consumption of spicy foods linked to lower risk of early death

This is an observational study so no definitive conclusions can be drawn about cause and effect, but the authors call for more research that may “lead to updated dietary recommendations and development of functional foods.”

Previous research has suggested that beneficial effects of spices and their bioactive ingredient, capsaicin, include anti-obesity, antioxidant, anti-inflammation and anticancer properties.

So an international team led by researchers at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences examined the association between consumption of spicy foods as part of a daily diet and the total risk and causes of death.

They undertook a prospective study of 487,375 participants, aged 30-79 years, from the China Kadoorie Biobank. Participants were enrolled between 2004-2008 and followed up for morbidities and mortality.

All participants completed a questionnaire about their general health, physical measurements, and consumption of spicy foods, and red meat, vegetable and alcohol.

Participants with a history of cancer, heart disease, and stroke were excluded from the study, and factors such as age, marital status, level of education, and physical activity were accounted for.

During a median follow-up of 7.2 years, there were 20,224 deaths.

Compared with participants who ate spicy foods less than once a week, those who consumed spicy foods 1 or 2

Nutrition science must change to meet world food needs, experts say

An international team of researchers, including scientists at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech, said nutrition science will have to change drastically to feed an exploding world population.

Writing in the open-access journal Frontiers in Nutrition, the researchers identified key opportunities taking place in nutrition science within the next five years that will be crucial to close a major gap between the amount of food available today and the amount projected to be available in 2050. Crop calories will need to increase about 69 percent to reach levels needed by 2050, according to the World Resources Institute.

“The grand challenges in 21st century nutrition research extend beyond individual health, encompassing all the massively interacting systems that help to sustain a global population,” said Josep Bassaganya-Riera, a professor and director at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute’s Nutritional Immunology and Molecular Medicine Laboratory. “This article provides concrete recommendations for assessing these issues at the macro-level such as the application of informatics, data analytics, and modeling approaches.”

The researchers, from various disciplines including genetics, neuroscience, nutritional science, physiology, immunology, food science technology, and psychology, are reaching out to the scientific community with an ambitious set of research goals for nutrition science for the

Meals That Are Proven to Make You Happier

People the world over stand divided on everything from religious to political beliefs. One common denominator brings us all together: food. We need it in order to survive and thrive. In fact, a good meal impacts our overall moods as well as our bodies.

Many different types of foods have been shown to improve our happiness levels. Two main categories of mood-affecting foods exist. So-called “happy foods” affect us physiologically because they contain higher levels of vitamins and minerals that impact the production and release of serotonin, the neurotransmitter scientists believe is largely responsible for fostering feelings of happiness. On the other hand, comfort foods have a psychological benefit. For example, if Mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies cheered you up as a kid, replicating her recipe will likely be a mood-booster on a down day, thanks to the happy memories associated with the treat.

So why aren’t we eating these types of foods at every meal? Certain happy foods get a bad rap as “health foods,” and some turn up their noses at these bland, lean dishes. As for comfort food, much of this fare is packed with calories and fat, which, in the long run, won’t make us happier. Fortunately, these
