One Early Voting Location Saving Starr Co. Money
Posted: Updated: Oct 26, 2016 07:29 PMRIO GRANDE CITY – Voters in Starr County have only one polling location to use for early voting. The county judge said the move is saving the county thousands of dollars.
The county will have 10 polling locations when it comes to Election Day. The one early voting location is just for federal, state and county races only.
People who want to vote early in Starr County need to go to the county courthouse in Rio Grande City.
Starr County Judge Eloy Vera said it cost around $7,000 to run each polling location. Starr County doesn’t have many local races for this election.
Vera said there isn’t a need to have multiple early voting locations.
“Being that we’re in the crunch that we are, and I mean we South Texas, including Starr County, the court decided that we would try and save that money because the number of votes that came in was not conducing to spending that kind of money, and for that reason we chose the courthouse,” he said.
Cities that have their own elections are running their polls.
