Bucephalus or Bucephalas (/bjuːˈsɛfələs/; Ancient Greek: Βουκέφαλος or Βουκεφάλας, from βούς bous, "ox" and κεφαλή kephalē, "head" meaning "ox-head") (c. 355 BC – June 326 BC) was the horse of Alexander the Great, and one of the most famous actual horses of antiquity. Ancient accounts state that Bucephalus died after the Battle of the Hydaspes in 326 BC, in what is now modern Pakistan, and is buried in Jalalpur Sharif outside of Jhelum, Pakistan. Another account states that Bucephalus is buried in Phalia, a town in Pakistan's Mandi Bahauddin District, which is named after him. Αccording to the dictionary of Hesychius ( Ησύχιου ), the Bucephalus (Βουκεφάλας )was not just a name, but a category of Thessalian horses brought a bucrania (ox + skull), ie: an ox head, as a hallmark of Thessaly studs, stamped with red-hot iron on the croup. Therefore this famous horse he owed his name to a croup and not his head. See: on Hesychius Dictionary ( Λεξικόν Ησύχιου, p. 313 ed. Library of Greeks anastatiki edition of 1975, Βιβλιοθήκη των Ελλήνων, αναστατική έκδοση 1975 ): "Bucephalus: horse having a bucrania ( ox skull ) on the croup ~ «Βουκέφαλος: ίππος εγκεχαραγμένον έχων τοις ισχίοις βούκρανον»"
Alexander III of Macedon (20/21 July 356 BC – 10/11 June 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great (Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας, Aléxandros ho Mégas [a.lék.san.dros ho mé.gas], from the Greek ἀλέξω (alexō) "defend" and ἀνδρ- (andr-), the stem of ἀνήρ (anēr) "man" and means "protector of men"), was a King (Basileus) of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty, an ancient Greek royal house. Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander succeeded his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of twenty. He spent most of his ruling years on an unprecedented military campaign through Asia and northeast Africa, and by the age of thirty he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from Greece to Egypt into northwest India and modern-day Pakistan. He was undefeated in battle and is widely considered one of history's most successful military commanders.
During his youth, Alexander was tutored by the philosopher Aristotle until the age of 16. After Philip's assassination in 336 BC, Alexander succeeded his father to the throne and inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army. Alexander was awarded the generalship of Greece and used this authority to launch his father's Panhellenic project to lead the Greeks in the conquest of Persia. In 334 BC, he invaded the Achaemenid Empire, ruled Asia Minor, and began a series of campaigns that lasted ten years. Alexander broke the power of Persia in a series of decisive battles, most notably the battles of Issus and Gaugamela. He subsequently overthrew the Persian King Darius III and conquered the Achaemenid Empire in its entirety. At that point, his empire stretched from the Adriatic Sea to the Indus River.
Richard David James (born 18 August 1971), best known by his alias Aphex Twin, is an English electronic musician and composer based in London. He is best known for his influential and idiosyncratic work in electronic music styles such as IDM and ambient techno in the 1990s, for which he won widespread critical acclaim. He is also the co-founder of Rephlex Records with Grant Wilson-Claridge.
Initially releasing acid and techno records as AFX and under other aliases, James's first received widespread acclaim for his 1992 album Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and his subsequent 1993 release Selected Ambient Works Volume II. He rose to mainstream popularity with his 1997 EP, Come To Daddy and his 1999 single "Windowlicker". Taking a 14-year hiatus following the release of his 2001 album Drukqs to mixed reviews, James returned in 2014 with a new album, Syro, earning him critical praise and a win for Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
James was born in Limerick, Ireland, but he grew up in Lanner, Cornwall, UK, with two older sisters, in a "very happy" childhood during which they "were pretty much left to do what [they] wanted". He enjoyed living there, feeling apart from nearby cities and the rest of the world. James attended Redruth School in Redruth, Cornwall, and claimed to have produced sound on a Sinclair ZX81 (a machine with no sound hardware) at age 11:

Strong. Bold. Fearsome. History describes Bucephalus as a huge horse with a black coat: the massive charger of Alexander the Great. Legend tells how young Alexander gentled the untamed Bucephalus, when no other warrior could ride him. He soothed Bucephalus and turned him towards the sun, so the great horse could no longer see his own shadow, which he feared. From then on, Bucephalus was Alexander the Great's loyal warhorse. This is my tribute to the most famous actual horse in antiquity. Created May 2009. Music: "Titans" by Vangelis, from the "ALEXANDER" Original Soundtrack. Available at local stores. Source Footage: Oliver Stone's "ALEXANDER" film, the extended cut. Recommended Reading: "I AM THE GREAT HORSE" by Katherine Roberts. (if you have not read this, go read it NOW...
I seem to have a weak spot for horses which I obviously can't shake off. So I couldn't resist making this video featuring the taming of Bucephalus by Alexander - well, in this case it's Alec - and the bet made with Phillip II. I like the relation that is drawn. The only thing I really don't like about the movie is how the story progresses after Alec comes back home. It just takes all the character out of The Black. I remember quite darkly that the books had been better concerning the horse races, but I am not so sure anymore. I devoured the books as a kid and sadly they still reside in the old and far far away school library... Well, I hope someone out there enjoys :D

At last, I have made a trailer for this fantastic book! "I AM THE GREAT HORSE" by Katherine Roberts. I was introduced to this *amazing* book about Bucephalus from a comment by H0rseL0ver15 on my other Bucephalus tribute (see video response). "From the moment battle-scarred Bucephalus allows a prince and a runaway girl to sit on his back, he is bound to them forever. The prince is the young Alexander the Great, who he proudly carries into battle, blazing a trail to the very edge of the world in his master's search for glory and adventure. The girl, Charm, is a lowly stable hand, who brushes away the ghosts Bucephalus sees and forgives his arrogant ways. But unlike the golden Alexander, Charm has darker reasons to stay by his side. Through the eyes of the horse, history, mystery, and ad...
