Mercedes-Benz has navigated its Marco Polo campervan towards Australia.
The German brand confirmed its commercial vehicle division will offer the factory-built Marco Polo Activity van locally late next year.
Costing from $69,900 (plus on-road costs), the Marco Polo is based on the company's V-Class van but kitted out specifically as a campervan suitable for small families.

Fitted with a manual pop-up roof made from breathable and water-resistant fabric, the Marco Polo is capable of sleeping two adults in the main compartment and two small children (or upto 200kg) on a separate bed when the roof is lifted up.
The roof also has zippered windows on either side for maximum ventilation and has a maximum standing height of 2.35m in the rear section of the van.
The five seat cabin can be configured in a conventional way while travelling while the individual front seats can be flipped around when stationary with a small table in place. The rear bench can fold flat in-line with a permanent rear shelf to act as a bed that measures 1.93m x 1.35m.

Like other V-Class variants, the Marco Polo will be powered by a 2.2-litre turbo diesel four cylinder engine that produces 140kW of power and has a claimed average fuel consumption of just 6.0L/100km. It will come standard with a seven-speed automatic transmission, has 25,000km service intervals and is capable of towing up to 2.5 tonne.
While Mercedes-Benz has yet to finalise detailed specifications, it has stated the Marco Polo will be equipped with satellite navigation, a reverse camera, six airbags, crosswind assist and parking assist with front and rear parking sensors. It will also have a twin-battery set-up to ensure greater peace-of-mind while in camping remote areas.
