Kanye West hospitalised as Kim cancels public appearance
KIM Kardashian has cancelled her first public appearance since she was robbed in Paris after husband Kanye West was reportedly taken to hospital to undergo a “psychiatric evaluation”.
TMZ is reporting Kardashian flew to New York City early on Monday local time to attend the Angel Ball, but bailed when West required medical attention.
Her sisters, Khloe and Kourtney, were in attendance, but Kim was nowhere to be seen on the night.
It’s believed she is en route to Los Angeles to be with West.
TMZ first reported the rapper was taken to hospital after police were called for a “welfare check” at his home.
The gossip site also reported the controversial rap star was taken to UCLA Medical Centre “for psychiatric evaluation”, and claimed police were said to have “responded to a call for a welfare check on Kanye” around 1.20pm local time.
Paramedics were also called to the scene and took West to hospital, TMZ reports.
West was resistant to go to hospital, according to TMZ, who also claimed it was told by law enforcement sources the rapper was “restrained by handcuffs to a gurney during transport to the hospital”.
TMZ said sources connected to West said he was being examined for severe sleep deprivation.
Sources told NBC that no criminal activity was involved and the decision to hospitalise West was for his “own health and safety”.
It comes after West launched into an epic tirade onstage in Sacramento, prompting the rest of his Saint Pablo tour to be cancelled. A source had told People magazine West backed out of the tour because he was “exhausted”.
At a concert in San Jose last weekend, West likened himself to President-elect Donald Trump before going on a 17-minute rant.
West revealed that he didn’t bother to vote in the US election — but that if he did he would have voted for Mr Trump.
“Not only did I not vote, but there were a lot of things I actually liked about Trump’s campaign. His approach was f**king genius — because it worked,” he told fans.

Kanye West aggravated fans and reportedly prompted some to leave his San Jose show on November 17 as he went off on a lengthy politically-charged rant. During the tirade, West told the audience he didn?t vote in the November 8 presidential election, but if he had, he would have voted for Donald Trump. He argued that his support for Trump did not mean he didn?t support women?s rights or the Black Lives Matter movement, as the video here shows, though told the crowd that black people should talk less about race." ?We are in a racist country ? period,? West has repeatedly said he plans to run for president in 2020, and he reportedly restated that to his fans.
Today, his wife was pictured boarding a private jet at a Los Angeles airport, believed to be on her way to New York where she was expected to appear at a gala event honouring her late father, lawyer Robert Kardashian.
An insider told The New York Post Kardashian is due to attend Denise Rich’s Angel Ball.
Kardashian, 36, is reportedly set to join her siblings Rob, Kourtney and Khloé and mother Kris Jenner to honour her late father at Cipriani Wall Street.
Kim had been seen at her husband West’s concerts since she was robbed but this will be her first high profile event since the robbery.
“People were working on convincing her to come last week. She would join the family on stage to accept the award, but who knows if she will speak for the family,” another source said.
According to TMZ, Kim boarded a private jet in LA early on Monday morning, LA time.
She left without West after his hysterical outburst against Beyonce and Jay Z on Sunday night.
