Sea Eagles presser

"We started alright, it certainly wasn't an effort thing," said coach Trent Barrett.

Responding the accusation of diving from rival coach Paul Green, captain Jamie Lyon said: "I can't really remember it. Did Greeny say a few words?

"He got in the way. probably went down. As the rules go, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't."

Green Mocks Jamie Lyon Swan Dive

NORTH Queensland coach Paul Green has mocked retiring Manly captain Jamie Lyon for taking a swandive that appeared to play a role in the premiers being denied a try for obstruction.

The Cowboys marched to their fifth consecutive win when they beat the Sea Eagles 34-18 at Brookvale Oval but Green thought the world champs should have had at least one more try.

"I reckon Jamie Lyon should be nominated for a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.," Green said of Lyon hitting the turf when the touchdown was chalked off for obstruction.

"Everyone is confused about the the obstruction. We have a coaches meeting this week and I'm sure obstruction will be discussed.

"I think we need to have discretion, in all seriousness. This rule in particular keeps bobbing up, keeps coming up. We all need to get on the same page."

Captain Johnathan Thurston said: "There's some great fooyt being played at the moment and it's disappointing we keep talking about this subject."

Green added: "Any win at Brookvale Oval is a good one but I was a bit disappointed in our second half effort.

"We lacked a bit of that ruthless mentalty. We put the cue in the rack.

"It was a tough game for everyone to prepare for when they know they're playing next weekend. Some of the players thought we had the game locked up and 'let's get this over and move on next week."

Fulltime at Brookvale Oval: NORTH QUEENSLAND 34 MANLY 18

MANLY have saved face with a couple of late tries in an otherwise convincing loss to North Queensland at Brookvale Oval.

With six minutes to go the Sea Eagles trailed 34-6 and were heading for their worst-ever loss at the hands of the Townsville team. Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt had scored a first-half brace.

75 min: Godinet try, Lyon goal

No more waiting for Godinet to score. He has. Jake Trbojevic kicks for him after an offload in midfield from Siosia Vave and Lyon once more converts. Definitely the best try of the match. North Queensland 34-18

74 min: Cherry Evans try, Lyon goal

Daly Cherry Evans scores after a grubber bounces of an upright and back into his waiting arms. Jamie Lyon takes a quick conversion. North Queensland 34-12

68 min: Linnett try, Thurston goal

Johnathan Thurston perferms a little curtsy for the cameras after converting another North Queensland try, this time scored by future Scotland international Kane Linnett on the left side. North Queensland 34-6

62 min: Cooper try, Thurston goal.

Gavin Cooper runs off Johnathan Thurston's left shoulder - as usual - the line is just too good for the Manly defence. This game's settled now. The Cowboys are just too good., I'd like to see some stats about premiership-winning sides in the salary cap era staying together. It can't have happened often. North Queensland 28-6

Sosia Vave slaps Kyle Feldt and we have a minor melee. Obviously, no punches are thrown. The penalty goes to the Cowboys and on the next set, but we have a disallowed try based on an obstruction. Jamie Lyon takes a giant dive without a hand laid on him. You can only hope it played no part in the decision. Andrew Voss actually just said Waiting For Godinet! Ha! North Queensland 22-6

Halftime at Brookvale Oval: NORTH QUEENSLAND 22 MANLY 6

WINGER Kyle Feldt has scored a first half brace as North Queensland leeds Manly by 16 at Brookvale Oval.

The Cowboys look too good against a Sea Eagles side missing fullback Brett Stewart, The Cowboys are shooting for a fifth consecutive win.

31 min: Morgan try

Newly capped Australian international Michael Morgan splits Manly's leftside defence n the south-western corner, forcing the defence to hold off with a dummy. Johnathan Thurston pilots a curved conversion attempt into the night sky - but it's not curved enough. North Queensland 22-6

22 min: Lyon try, goal

Daly Cherry Evans kicks towards the north-eastern corner and that retiring type, Jamie Lyon, wins the race and dots down just short of the dead ball line. Lyon converts. North Queensland 18-6

18 min: Winterstein try, Thurston goal

Lachlan Coote sends a short pass with winger Antonion Winterstein who powers through three defenders to touch down. The ball has swept almost touchline to touchline. The Bunker gives the third try a stamp of approval. Thurston converts. North Queensland 18-0

14 min: Feldt try. Thurston goal

Kyle Feldt is in again, this time from a kick by Johnathan Thurston that is quite astounding. It's a grubber into the Manly in-goal and it sits up miraculously on the last bounce for the winger. Thurston converts from near the posts. North Queensland 12-0

10 min: Feldt try, Thurston goal

The Bunker confirms the first try of the fame in the south-western corner, with Kyle Feldt executing a perfect finish with his three other limbs in the air as he dots down.  Thurston does what he couldn't do in the grand final and converts from the sideline. North Queensland 6 Manly 0
