After a week where his future was cast into doubt yet again, Wests Tigers star Robbie Farah issued the perfect response to Jason Taylor by scoring a stunning individual try to clinch an upset win over South Sydney.Â
It may have been a performance hoped for by the Tigers coach, but it was the veteran hooker who claimed another significant victory in the battle for hearts and minds.Â
Chants of "Robbie, Robbie, Robbie" echoed around the stadium as he made his entrance and Farah repaid the faith of his fans despite playing little more than half a game from the bench. Running half the field for a brilliant solo try was the icing on the cake for Farah, who was determined to show why he's still an integral part of the side despite his future remaining unclear under the guidance of Taylor.Â
The captaincy may have been stripped  from him during the off-season but his leadership was clear to see on the field as the Tigers showed signs they are on the right track at last after  rebuilding for the better part of four seasons.Â
It didn't start so pretty, however. An early spill from Josh Addo-Carr was endemic of a sloppy opening stanza where eight errors were committed by both sides. Addo-Carr only had to catch the ball and ground for the first four-pointer but spilled the ball under no pressure.
Mitchell Moses capitalised on an earlier error, slicing through an indecisive defensive line to score the first try of the night.Â
The Rabbitohs' ruin continued straight from the kick-off. The joint venture side opted to spread the ball wide immediately with a shift play putting Kevin Naiqama through after beating Greg Inglis. An offload to Tim Simona left Souths chasing shadows as the centre bolted clear to score an incredible try against the 2014 champions.Â
Serious njuries to Sam Burgess and Bryson Goodwin compounded the woes for the Rabbitohs. There was  brief moment to celebrate when Cody Walker provided a clever flick-pass to Alex Johnston to claw them back into the contest, trailing by just six points despite having been convincingly outplayed.Â
It was only a brief respite from the Tigers' rampant attack, as they wound back the clock with a vintage try. Playing the carefree, attacking and creative football they were synonymous with a decade ago, the Tigers headed into the tunnel with a 10-point lead by the break after yet another impressive try. A slick catch and pass move involving eight players was finished by David Nofoaluma to make it 14-4 at the interval.
Souths fought back in the 55th minute through Johnston again, though their hopes of a comeback were short lived as Chris Lawrence extended the Tigers' lead with a powerful run from close rangeÂ
Moses' rusty evening with the boot meant the Tigers never made thier lead a comfortable one. It mattered little to the end result as Naiqama made certain of the two points with a trademark darting run to find his way to the line.Â
A match that began on the pine for Farah ended with a memorable moment. From near the halfway line, the hooker sliced his way down the middle of field and deceived Souths fullback Cody Walker to seal his first try of the season and the Tigers' sixth win.Â
