Jenta O’ Ja (Girl and I) Char Bostrom and Art Bjorngjeld are musicians from the Twin Cities of Minnesota who have been playing together for Scandinavian dances since the early 1990s. Char has a passion for Swedish polska music and is highly sought after to provide music for dance instruction workshops. Art Bjorngjeld grew up in a musical family, with roots in Norway and columbus, North Dakota. His father, aunts, and uncles all played Scandinavian and country music for dances and parties. Art has been to Norway and Sweden to participate in music festivals. He has also performed at music festivals around the country from California to Manhattan, and has been a regular at the Hostfest in Minot, and played on Prairie Home Companion. Along with Char Bostrom, he performs in the duet, Jenta O'Ja (Girl and I). As a duo, they play a variety of Scandinavian dance music. They love to explore the older and less well known dance forms within the Scandinavian tradition, but their performances always include a generous helping of the newer “gammaldans” tunes, waltz, polka, and schottische. Norsk Høstfest is a nonprofit Scandinavian festival held annually in the fall in the North Dakota State Fair Center on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot, N.D., USA. Entering its 38th year, the festival has become North America’s largest Scandinavian festival with tens of thousands of people attending from all over the world. The festival features world-class entertainment, Scandinavian culture on display, handcrafted Norsk merchandise, authentic Scandinavian cuisine plus a fine dining establishment, En To Tre, lead by Norwegian chefs. Norsk Høstfest celebrates Scandinavian culture from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, Greenland, Sami, Lapland, Telemark and American Lakota Highlights of the event include announcing the annual Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame inductees include the selection of the annual Miss Norsk Hostfest and naming of the Award, which recognizes festival excellence in five categories: artisan, exhibitor, food concessionaire, volunteer and chairman. General Admission to the festival is $36 per day for adults. Kids 12 and younger are free, and teenagers (13-17) are $10. General admission gives you all-day access to everything Hostfest has to offer: more than 54 Hall entertainers, shopping, dining, Viking fights, and more!
