BROWNLOW MEDAL 2016

Ever since Patrick Dangerfield first stepped onto a field in Geelong colours, he has been the overwhelming favourite for the 2016 Brownlow Medal. A standout performance in his first match as a Cat set the tone for the remainder of the season, dominating the Hawks on Easter Monday at the MCG.

However, the chasing pack is coming. A host of Swans will also be up for consideration. Luke Parker, Dan Hanneberyand Josh Kennedy all in contention. Dustin Martin has provided Richmond fans with a hint of hope in an otherwise disappointing campaign and would be a fan-favourite to claim his first ever Brownlow Medal.

Sam Mitchell, so close on so many occasions, has had another consistent campaign and will poll a heap of votes in a Hawthorn side that once again has been at the top of its game. At the other end of the age spectrum, Marcus Bontempelli will be looking to emulate dual Brownlow champion Chris Judd and win the honour in just his third season.

But don’t rule out those in the west. Can Luke Shuey shock the field, in a similar manner to how his teammate Matt Priddis did in 2014?

It looms as an intriguing count.
